So I have been looking for a walkpad style treadmill and have had serious issues sifting through the online marketplaces in the search results to actually find a brick and mortar store that stocks them.
The same few products including obvious rebranding of the same product across multiple online marketplace store fronts - Bunnings, Woolworths, Kogan, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman, JB Hifi, Decathlon etc

Frustrating to wade through the shit on these portals. Most of them I cannot filter to only in-store options

After multiple stays at Tomamu here are some tips and lessons learned to make the most out of your stay.

  • If you want to hire ski/board gear, the rental shop at Hoshino resort is a lot more budget friendly (30-50% cheaper), sacrificing the convenience of being in the Club Med building. See https://www.snowtomamu.jp/winter/en/ski/rental/. You would take one of the regular shuttle buses across to the Hoshino side to pick it up and drop back. Club Med use Rossignol, Hoshino uses Salamon/Atomic/Vertex. Basic and premium equipment available at both.

  • Getting between the resorts - there is a Club Med shuttle and a Hoshino Shuttle. The Hoshino shuttle arrives/leaves from mina mina beach, 20

I just got a new board (Salomon HPS Louif Paradis) but considering whether to keep using my old bindings. They are Ride SPI DFC editions - all metal plate and frame. They are getting on in age but are still very serviceable. I have read they are too stiff. Am I going to notice any change in ride quality with a modern set of bindings? No park, just carving/freeride.

New board help

Gear question

So I haven't bought a new board for over 17 years, want to get a new one but there are so many options I don't know where to start. I am currently riding this https://www.snowdb.com/catalog/hammer/2008/contact-c and I have no idea what technology has improved and what to look for in a new board.

I ride pretty casually, into carving mostly groomed runs. No park or jumps. I rented a 161 Salomon board this year when I had a week in Japan. It had wavy edges and performed a lot better than my current board (obviously).

I'm 6'4" and about 87kg. I am pretty comfortable on the 161, wouldn't go any shorter, but I haven't used anything longer since I had an Atomic 163 when I was a beginner. Any ti

Stayed 10 days and here are +/- and tips.

TLDR:

  • Great staff
  • Great food
  • Great skiing
  • No lift lines
  • Good for kids/families

Stayed 10 days with wife and a 3y/o. Got a mountain view family room - huge and well appointed but far from the main resort areas.

Arrival
Flight from Osaka to Sapporo on JAL. Airport easy to manage. I went with the club transport because I couldn't get information on other affordable options. Arrived at 1pm but bus didnt leave until 3pm. Club Med staff waiting to greet at airport and hand out wrist bands. Another option would have been to take the JR train to Tomamu station then there is a Hoshino/Club Med shuttle bus that will take to the resort.

Slim chance I know but anyone rented gear in Tomamu before? I have a trip booked for January at Tomomu in Hokkaido Japan and I am debating whether to lug my own gear or rent. I am not a beginner so looking at better quality stuff.

Secondary question - anyone know if you can use the airport to hotel luggage transport services to move snow equipment?

Anyone hired ski/snowboard equipment in Tomamu? Wondering on the range and quality of gear they stock for rental. I am a seasoned snowboarder and yet to decide to take my gear or rent there.

Baw Baw

Things That Go Ding

Went to Baw Baw yesterday for the first time. Great place! Lucky to get fresh snow falls. Walking the trails is really magical. Took 2 hours to get out though because of people inexperienced with snow driving :(

Card surcharges

no politics

So my local cafe started adding a flat 40c surcharge to all card transactions. Given that the majority of their transactions are coffees at $4.00, this surcharge seems overly excessive, in breach of some type of maximum and in my opinion, flat out taking the piss.

I have stopped going there which is a shame but I was wondering what is the recourse for reporting this type of possibly illegal practice?
