Do you think rioting has a place as a legitimate strategy? Is it useful? Desirable? Is it to be condemned? Or is it just an unavoidable consequence of the society we live in that has nothing to do with Anarchism?

Meta is constantly infested with trolls and invaded by drama subs and reactionaries. I suggest;

  • Make it private, only allow people from r/anarchism who have contributed and shown interest in the community. I imagine we could still add pretty much anyone that's interested, but no troll accounts, brigaders and obvious non-anarchists.

  • Get rid of death threats / personal insults. This has always been contentious because people understandably don't want to be nice to bigots. If meta were private, this would no longer be an excuse, you could be more sure that people here are anarchists and you should be nice to them and participate in good faith.

Maybe then we could restrict it to people w

OK so a bunch of you are clearly unhappy that u/voltairinede banned u/rvannith despite the ban thread not being left for 48 hours and not passing the 2/3rds majority that our rules require.

This is irrelevant, but personally, I support the ban, and the reasons for the ban.

Even if I added my vote though, this doesn't make a sufficient majority to carry the ban, so I've undone it. I would support a modified proposal of a temp ban and a warning.

I have also left volt as a mod, and will do so unless there is a lot of call to remove them for this - which I personally think would be overkill.

Anyways, there you go, cheers.

For a while now, the moderation policy here has been to ban obvious bigots and spammers on sight, and to go to a vote for anyone in the grey area.

Some of the moderators are just flat out completely ignoring this, and banning a lot of people without going through any of the process that the subreddit decided on.

I removed the banned person from this thread, because none of the process had been followed - no meta thread, no entry in the mod log.

A few hours later, it seems everyone is leaning towards banning the person anyway, cool, but then they are banned again, without reference to the thread, without w

I hope nobody minds the cross promotion...

/r/Anarchy101 has been updated!

After having been around for 4 years, and introducing possibly thousands of people to the basic (and not-so-basic) concepts of anarchism, r/Anarchy101 finally has a new look to reflect the lovely place that it is.

In the thread above I make the announcement over there and also a request for any and all comments and feedback about the state of the subreddit.

I'd love it if some more of you decided to participate, but please keep in mind that r/Anarchy101 has a slightly different set of rules to the main subreddit.

Hi Everyone.

r/Anarchy101 has been around for over 4 years now, and we have over 8000 subscribers, apparently! Woo!

I thought it was about time that the subreddit had a little facelift.

I've updated the CSS and the sidebar to give us a new look, and to make clearer some of the posting and participation guidelines that we have here - so that they are shown when you submit a new question, and are more obvious in the sidebar. I hope you like it.

With that out of the way, I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed here by asking or answering questions, and helping to make this a great little community.

I'd also love to hear any feedback and suggestions from all of you (in this thread)

First comment:

"Please, I've known a whole lot of women who claim that not being allowed to sleep over at some other dude's house, or who didn't get to spend all of their man's paycheck as 'abuse'.
This article is straight-up evil.

Second Comment:

"This sub is anti-male. Give it up.
This is why your insane political beliefs will never be popular."

So I received a private message from somebody pointing out to me that u/grapesandmilk has been moderating pretty inappropriately and removing a large amount of comments critical of primitivism. I replied to the person that messaged me to ask if they could sort it out, but I assume they're too busy as it's been a couple of days. Anyway, I finally got to a computer myself so here we go.

Here's the evidence they sent me of some of the removed comments:

Hi all.

There was a post on here earlier, which I'm sure many of you saw, that linked to an article on anarchistnews.org, calling for cyber attacks against several fascist groups.

This post has been removed by one of the reddit admins, and they have messaged us to remind us that we cannot use reddit as a place to organise or encourage this kind of attack.

So just a reminder to please not make posts that directly encourage or ask people to join in this sort of activity, because they will be removed.

You can check out reddit's content policy here.

Thanks,

sync.

##removal of cosmic

I posted a thread explaining why I removed cosmic_insurrection. It was hastily put together because I don't have a lot of time at the moment, but the basic facts are there. I'm reposting it here because it seems from some comments that some people didn't see it.

##"new" rules

Before all this happened, a couple of the new moderators - jackrousseau and Rad_q-a-v- came to me to discuss the idea of clarifying some of the rules for users and moderators.

I thought this was a great idea - a lot of the problems we had with new moderators (including with cosmic, initially), were because the rules we

Hi all, firstly, apologies that I'm not going to be able to go into as much detail as I'd like. I don't have a lot of free time at the moment, but people are impatient for some kind of explanation, so here we go.

##context

After the last "coup" of moderators, the community voted that I should stay as top moderator as a failsafe. As a check on the other moderators, should they ever need adding or removing. That's pretty much all I do here. I don't tend to get involved in banning people, and I generally don't even vote on things in meta.

u/min_thamee has been asked countless times to not complain about moderation until they have built up a little more good faith in the community.

My proposal to ban them didn't pass, but then today they have created yet another thread complaining about moderation.

They had already raised the issue in the main sub, and in mod mail, and it had already been dealt with.

I have given them a 1-week temp ban.
