Chessmaster GME was released in 2007, thats 14 years ago! Since then as a casual chess fan, it seems like nothing near it has been released since. And of course, with Android/iOS being a thing now, I miss what Chessmaster brought to the table even more.

I'm talking about stuff like:

Various AI "Personalities", opponents with large range of ratings, etc.

Good learning material and such would also be welcome.

I'm a little confused why your only/primary house would be included in your net worth (from a paid off / net positive perspective). Logically, you and your spouse/family/whatever need a place to live through every stage of life. A house costs money to maintain, taxes to keep, and if you liquidate it you'll just have to buy another house (or rent) at whatever similarly inflated price the market happens to be in.

From a FIRE perspective, why does most advice I see say to include that in your net worth?

I play Stellaris on a touchscreen due to injury that makes mouse use difficult. The one major thing I can't overcome is the lack of pinch zoom or scrollwheel emulation. Anyone know if its possible to add UI buttons for zoom in and out?

How easy is it to press these in compared to DS4? I read that they are presure sensitive, how light of a press is needed for it to register as an attack in say, Demons Souls?

Normally I'd just go into a store and mess around with it, but of course thats pretty unwise at the moment.

Overall, how comfortable is the controller ergonomically with adult hands? Does it feel natural to reach the joysticks or do you feel you need to reach with your thumb at all through the sticks range of motion?

Obviously, 2020 has been just a total trainwreck for most of the world. Normally I'm more of an action or at least real time focused gamer, but to top off this year I've also had a lot of problems with my fingers and wrists that has made traditional gaming (controller or mouse+kb) a quite literal pain.

With limited opportunity to get out of the house as a distraction and a limited physical ability to play the games I normally love, I started looking into the 4X/TBS/Grand Strategy genres seriously for the first time.

At first I was dishearted by what I saw. The oft-recommended Paradox grand strategy games look like they should play just fine on a touchscreen but in practice are very diffi

Started in the mid-late 2000s as a Doom3 total conversion mod, when Doom3's engine went open source the game was fully set free. Its an incredible homage to the classic Thief and Thief 2 Metal Age games, some of the best stealth games ever created. There are nearly 150 missions created for the game so far!

It is most likely one of the most amazing collaborative efforts I've ever seen in the open source gaming community.

There is currently a rough in-progress VR mod thats made quite a bit of progess, but I'm hoping some folks here can pitch in and get it over the finish line as its mostly just missing touch controls but is otherwise very playable.

If I could combine EU4 or Imperator Rome with TW's battles, it would be awesome. Which TW gets me the closest to something like that? I know it won't be remotely close to those paradox titles, but I'm just curious which TW, if any, nudges the bar a little further towards the in depth strategy.

The previous grand strategy titles almost work well, but have issues where you have to tap once to move, once to click. This causes clicks on buttons you don't intend if you aren't really careful. I think Imperator: Rome worked a little better than the older titles, so I'm hoping CK3 improves the support further.

I think these games would be great on touchscreens and would prefer to use one over a mouse because of RSI problems.

I'm looking or some fun, low intensity games that are still somewhat mechanically challenging.

I've been dealing with some issues that prevent me from playing games I really like lately (stuff like dark souls, ARPGs in general, shooters, etc). Because of this, using a mouse and most gamepad use in games is not comfortable, so games playable on a touchscreen or maybe keyboard only would be preferable.

Pure turn based games don't really do it for me so I'm thinking something with pretty simple controls but still requiring some kind of real time input.

I have a touchscreen Windows laptop that can run games half decently and an Android phone so either would be fine, but of course the Android

Any ideas? Theres so many top-down action/adventure style games on steam, but so few have that feeling of classic Zelda combat that I've tried thus far and as far as I know theres not really a tag that would be useful to filter by.

I'll try to list the pieces of ALTTP's combat that I think defines it:

  • Multiple tools to take out/affect enemies (Sword, bow, hookshot, etc).

  • Hitting the enemy has some kind of positioning logic (in ALTTP enemies with shields need to be approached from certain angles to be hit by your sword)

  • Hits have knockback both on the player and enemies.

  • Items can affect movement. (Pegasus boots, hookshot, etc)

Obviously, short of finding an actual coop clone
