My local store use to make sausage in-house. The quality was decent, and I bought more once every month or two (Sweet Italian Pork sausage). That whole glass display case is now full of 'artsy' food, and the sausage moved to the pre-packaged open display case. The sausage itself LOOKS pale and different, and when I steamed it for 7 minutes, exactly 1/3 of the total volume ended up in the bottom of the Instant Pot as a thick, dark, oily sludge that I've NEVER seen before. The total cooked volume of the steamed sausage is 1/3 what previous store-made sausage was. Instead of 3 packages for the freezer, I only got 2 packages, starting with the same number of sausages.

We have a WHOLE lot of these spread across 500K sq.ft. of warehouse, and about 5% have failed after 5 years. They'll start flicking on and off, then go out entirely. I'm guessing they're a 120-270vac input constant-current output supply, and the initial error state seems like it's falling out of regulation and shutting down, then restarting. Cheap China caps are a good guess, followed by the switching MOSFET(s) overheating. I haven't pulled one apart yet, but there's 10 that they've set aside for me.

Most places we can get to, but some are a REAL pain to swap out so I'd like to 'ruggedize' them to minimize replacement.

I see something like 50 different no-name Chinese companies selli

I just ripped this off my chest, getting a free waxing in the process. Being insatiably curious, OF COURSE I tore it apart! :-) The micro is a Qualcomm CSR 1012 SoC with BLE, there's a Macronix MX25U12832F 1.8V, 128M-bit Flash, and the interesting bits are in a house-marked chip with amplifiers and DACs inside, presumably. Not even a hint from Google on the part number (sigh).

There's a similar model on FCCID.io, https://fccid.io/SPO-VCI-VP2/Internal-Photos/Vital-Connect-Internal-Photo-3313657 though it's using a different battery setup. The VC2B number is the same.

I was curious if

Based on the last few days update to https://www.dallascounty.org/covid-19/ Dallas County dropped into the Green risk level on Wednesday, March 2nd. The daily positives listed for that day was 25; the top of Green is 1 per 100K new cases, or 26.4 new cases. The next day the case count had dropped to 6, or roughly 1 per 400K new cases, still apparently on a declining slope. If there's data on the Dallas County site for Friday, I can't get my mouse on it even when expanding the graph out.

$17USD for 5 of 'em (delivered) looks like a reasonable price if they aren't lousy boards.

The other CP2104 boards I see on eBay and Ali are cheap junk... they can't drive 3.3V logic unless you cut traces and green-wire VIO to 3.3V. Yeah, I know the ESP-8266 is theoretically 5V-tolerant, but I don't stress my toys if there's no need, so I want some adapters that'll drive 3.3V logic as well as 5V.

The Vreg in the CP2104 won't
