motherjones.com/politics/2018/12/how-one-comp...All of the debates about Frank Gore and Eli Manning (as well as others) have shown that people on this sub have wildly different views on what makes a player a hall of famer. I took a look at the hof website and the only thing I could find was "Honor the heroes of the game, preserve its history, promote its values & celebrate excellence." From writers like Peter King who have been more transparent than most, we also know that the hall must not consider any off-field factors when debating a candidate's eligibility. Outside of that, it seems like it's up to who can make the best case.
The arguments I've seen against certain players on this sub can be narrowed down to the following:

Assume that everything else in the nfl is unchanged, with the exception of a few plays in each affected super bowl.
Edit: alternate scenarios
36: Vinatieri misses, rams win in ot
38: same
39: Eagles don't bungle the clock and score gw td
42: Asante makes the pick
46: Welker makes the catch
49: Wilson completes the pass
51: falcons don't choke
52: brady catches his pass, Foles doesn't
0-8 means: rams win another title, panthers have a title, eagles have two, Seahawks have two, Atlanta has one
8-0 means: eagles still have none, giants still have two
Hard mode: how does either scenario (fairly or not) change his legacy?
Boredom + PFR led to this: I was curious if seeing how a team was able to gain first downs would give any clue as to how they'd like the playcalling to go, and if there were any clues we could identify heading into this weekend's games. I broke down each playoff team's first downs/game by type (pass, rush, penalty), and then split the results by wins and losses. There were a few interesting tidbits:
-
The Eagles baaarely averaged more 1Ds in a loss than a win (21.33 vs 21.08)
-
The Steelers had almost no change in their passing/rushing 1Ds in wins vs losses. The big difference? 2.54 1Ds via penalty in wins, vs .67 1Ds via penalty in losses
-
The Jaguars
