The tiebreak at the WCC, or any head-to-head match, gets replaced with the following: if the result after all games have been played is a tie, then sum the amount of time that each player had left remaining at the end of each game, and the winner is the player who has the most cumulative time remaining.
Players in a losing position might play on longer to make the player with advantage spend time to prove that advantage (good and instructive for viewers) or might resign sooner to conserve time (bad). I think the former would be more likely since it's usually more difficult to play when ahead.
Last game scenarios could get interesting. It would always be a must-win game for someone, but i
The difference is remarkable.
I'm pretty sure this happened in a high-level game a few years back but I'm having trouble finding it.
One of the final moves was a check which permitted three legal replies. One reply would have forced mate in 1 no matter the response, one would have allowed mate in 1, and the other reply would have immediately stalemated.
The player in check played the correct reply and resignation followed. I think one of the players was Karjakin.
Anybody know the game I'm talking about?
... or someone's first NHL goal is someone else's milestone point, etc.? Does the goalscorer get the puck by default? Always been kind of curious.

Do you take the 10% chance of an instant loss with R, or the 18% chance of a forcing spawn with D?
How does your decision change depending on the contents of the bottom row?
Mon-Hum-Mal-Neu playing without bones files on my local machine. First time making it past Juiblex's Swamp (I died there the only previous time I made it to Gehennom). Destroyed my robe thanks to an unfortunate polymorph trap somewhere around DL9. Encountered a pair of speed boots early on - it wasn't until later on that I realized how helpful this was. Sokoban had the bag. Sacrificed for Magicbane. Got nine points of intrinsic protection, then still had too much gold, so I kept donating and lucked into another point. Received a total of eight wishes: smoky potions were, quite conveniently, potions of fruit juice, so I got one wish from alchemizing potions of confusion and booze and blessing
We were playing Skull last night and got into a situation where two players remaining had a skull and a flower left (both had won one round), and were trying to figure out if there was a correct strategy for either player. The player with the initiative (A) put down a skull, the other player (B) put down a flower. A put down the other card, B bet one and won. It was observed that A could have won the game by putting down flower and betting two, but obviously A didn't know that B put down flower.
The ensuing discussion on strategy led to this: suppose B had put down skull anticipating A would bet two, A puts down a flower and bets two, loses a card and is left with the skull. However, B does
If CHC sweeps STL, then CHC wins NL Central, and:
- if COL wins at least as many games as LAD, then COL wins NL West and WC is LAD @ MIL.
- if LAD wins exactly one more game than COL, then COL @ LAD wins NL West, and WC is loser @ MIL.
- otherwise, LAD wins NL West and WC is COL @ MIL.
If CHC wins series against STL 2-1, then:
| MIL sweeps DET | all other MIL results | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| COL sweeps | LAD wins at least 1 | COL wins NL West | COL wins NL West |
| NL Central: MIL @ CHC | CHC wins NL Central | ||
| WC: LAD @ NLC loser | WC: LAD @ MIL | ||
