Since you guys seem to be in love with outdated game systems, are there any games out there with Hell Levels ala Original Everquest? And I don't mean ones that exist for NPCs but the Snowflake player blasts through.
So pretty every single LitRPG I've read, and by now that is a bloody lot, has used a variation on the grindable skill system. Use a skill, get better at it, with 'skill points' seemingly existing just because they are expected.
Are there any that use the older system where you don't get better at a skill with use, but only when you level and put points into it? Somewhere no matter how much the MC swings a sword he doesn't get better until he dumps points into 1H weapons?
Stories where the skill point system actually matters?
So back in Legion Personal Loot Helper use to have this raid functionality (since removed for I don't know what reason) that allowed people to whisper the word TRADE followed by an item link to the raid leader or people with assist and that item would then be put up for a chat roll. It worked very well.
There are a number of addons out there at the moment with the aim of improving personal looting in raids and normal groups, but honestly most of them are over complex and require everyone in the raid using them. My raid group is a fairly casual heroic group and the only addon we require is DBM, so getting everyone to install a loot manager is not going to happen.
Does anyon
So be it Portal Fantasy (dropped in another world), post apocalyptic, or straight VRMMO almost every book in this genre that I've read has had the game interface/system/etc be part of the world and everyone or virtually everyone have access to it.
There is another way however, that's the Gamer/Worth the Candle style. Now I've never read the comic itself, just fanfics in other fandoms that use it, but that style draws me in. The idea of instead of the hero getting an epic class or super skills the very fact they have a video game style interface is their super power, allowing them to gain skills and abilities at a much faster rate.
So recommend some to me if you know them, where only the
It seems *almost* every LitRPG has a protagonist that falls into the same grouping, male, young (16-25), American, generally white. Sure there are exceptions with the occasional female lead or gay lead, but for the most part this is the standard LitRPG protagonist.
There is nothing wrong with that, nothing at all. But as an older gamer coming up on my 40th birthday I'd really really like to see something based around a geek of an older generation or hell, just about anything that isn't the same blank slate with a power fetish.
What are your favourite books/web novels with a non-standard protagonist?
I know I'm going to get blasted with "a good story comes before game design" but I've just got to say most of the 'games' described in most LitRPGs just irritate the hell out of me with how poorly the game design is implemented.
Do you seriously think people will put up with 'realistic' travel times or 1990s era single instance raid fights?
It really breaks my Suspension of Disbelief when these systems are brought up in most LitRPGs, and that's important. We're all gamers here, or we wouldn't be into GameLit at all.
So with all that said what the best books with *good* and *realistic* game design, and I mean realistic is in how it would be developed in the real world, not as in a re
So I've always been a big fan of the golden age of sail both in books and movies, things like Horatio Hornblower and Aubrey/Maturin, and I was wondering if there was any LitRPG set in that style?
I guess I mean instead of the typical fantasy build a village the MC gets a ship and explores while upgrading it like a village.
So growing up I knew a lot of union people, everyone from meat workers to wharfies (dock workers) and onwards and one thing bugs me about how Danny, a life long union organiser, is often portrayed in fics.
Even when he is present and sympathetic to Taylor he still pushes her towards the government. I don't know how it is in America but unionists I know trust the government about as far as they can throw a mac truck.
This would have to be doubly true for someone life Danny who has lived through so much shit in his life and seen the government do sweet bugger all.
Hell it was strongly implied he was involved in violent protests and riots before he married a radical feminist involved in
Katherine furniture companies fuming over federal Indigenous grant to Darwin-based company
abc.net.au/news/2018-02-19/federal-government...So there a lot of fics that pay nods to cleaning up the ship graveyard and Danny's role in the dockworker's union, but you know what I haven't seen? A full on Communist Taylor.
I speak from personal experience that unions tend towards socialism and as conditions get worse the more and more they gravitate towards the extreme. I mean during the shittier years of the late 80s here in Australia we were singing the Internationale at meat workers union meetings. One of my better memories of being a kid.
So yeah has anyone seen anything like it? Hell any radically political Taylor would be interesting.
So most Tinker stories are utterly wank, part of the perils of the fandom being on SB/SV, but are there any out there involving a tinker whose theme is James Bond style spy gadgets like laser pens and exploding cuff-links and such.
So every now and then the topic of Kill Orders in various fics comes up and its always bugged me slightly how the fanon is basically an 'outlaw' style system where anyone anywhen anyway can kill someone with a Kill Order and be rewarded for it, even if they walk up behind the person in a coffee shop and put a bullet in the back of their head.
Now logically I approve of it for high degree threats but I just don't see how such an order could be legal in the United States, even one that has changed due to parahumans.
Declaring a person extremely dangerous and authorising lethal force if necessary by police officers? Yeah that's legal and happens IRL, but out and out putting a wanted dead
So I was wondering at there any fics where Taylor basically pulls an Accord? That is building up a non-powered support base and starts giving out powers to her supports, either via a trump ability or by buying them from the Big C?
I always thought it would be interesting see her be the master-mind with little to no front line potential.
