I remember rumours about this some time ago. I think one idea was that a tethered pc or gabecube would do the heavy lifting of running a game or other software, and the headset would run the calculations for running it in a VR or AR environment.

It’s been a while since I’ve read about this, but I recall thinking how neat it would be to combine the power of low-powered on-device processors with another slightly more powerful external device like the Steam Deck.

I saw a bit of poor information going around. If someone else wants to add to the list in the comments, that would be nice.

  1. AI has been trained on everything, including art, since the beginning. Whether it can recreate a specific artist depends on how training images were tagged. If typing [artist name] into a prompt imitates that style, then their pics were specifically tagged with the name. If it does nothing, their pictures might have still been in the training set.

  1. The yellow "piss filter" is specific to ChatGPT, and nothing else. It is not a sign of AI degenerating into shit, it is just OpenAI being their pissy self. Some other models have other specific tells, but no

Do you consider descriptions of characters to be a spoiler? Character relationships, even those already at the beginning of the story? The general plot hooks, if they are not part of the synopsis? ("After entering a town she has to prevent the invasion from aliens.")

Are things that happen in the first chapter(s) already spoilers? Should reviewers put any mention of the story that is not already part of the synopsis/blurb into spoiler tags?

This goes mostly to the authors, here.

For context, here are the official (and vague) rules:

A review may contain spoilers under the appropriate spoiler tag(from the toolbar).
Spoiler content may not exceed a third of the overall word c

I currently use gen 1 AirPods and consider them "okay" for listening. I used to use Pixel Buds, but one of them stopped working recently.

Special consideration: I have weirdly formed and small ear canals. If possible, I’d prefer headphones that don’t require sticking anything inside much. (Earbuds worked, by I only partially inserted the tips.)

Use cases:

  • At my computer, mostly in a quiet environment.

  • I’d like good sound quality, though I expect anything modern to be better than AirPods 1.

  • Cable seems nice if it’s durable/replaceable enough. The free headphones used to break after ~2 years, which was annoying.

  • Doing Chores around the house.

  • Wireless required, and with a bi

I first noticed this yesterday after a regular update + restart via zypper dup. It affects both pairs of bluetooth headphones I’ve tried.

Observed issue(s):

  1. Headphone audio is fluctuation. It sounds somewhat similar to when I’m barely in range of the computer and the connection is barely coming through, with it connecting/disconnecting. Mostly, it’s cutting off at a frequency of more than once per second.

  2. Sometimes, it fully disconnects the headphones, the reconnects.

Peculiarities: 1) Restarting the computer lead to a minute plus of good audio until the issue started up again. 2) Forgetting/Repairing one device seemed to briefly fix it for less than a minute.

I’ve tried:

For those unaware, Reddit is about to kill all third-party apps relying on API access. Apollo, Reddit is fun and others will be discontinued if that happens. Reddit Enhancement Suite may or may not be affected. The way this was done also seems very malicious / user unfriendly.

This will also force some users who rely on accessibility features off the site. r/blind in particular pointed this out as a consequence.

In addition, Reddit has been encouraging bots over users, recently. Various people have reported getting warnings or even temp bans for reporting bots. Additionally, Reddit itself seems to have started using bots to copy machine-translated English posts and comments to Subreddits

EDIT: I’m now posting from OpenSUSE TW. Ever since the servers are up again, I even got it running properly. Thanks for the help, all who posted.

Linux experience: I’ve been using Linux exclusively for ~15 years, but I’m not a tinkerer, and have no technical background beyond being a user. My approach to problems has always been 1) Check if there are understandable solutions online. 2) If solutions failed or seems tedious, ignore the problem / hope it fixes itself. 3) If the problem or fix seem too annoying, reinstall or install a different distro.

After various Ubuntu based distros, some recommendations lead me to Manjaro ~2 years ago. I’ve also used SteamOS as a desktop ma

I have had my Deck for a bit more than a month. It has been great for some parts, but issues keep cropping up, including one much bigger than I initially thought.

Here’s the big one, which I consider RMA-ing for:

  • Occasionally, the Deck will suddenly turn off.
  • Sometimes it displays a low battery message and shut down. Sometimes it just turns black immediately.
  • Immediately trying to turn it back on fails. Various examples of when it worked again: 1) After ~15 minutes; 2) After a couple of hours; 3) After moving it into the shadow of a desk. (Inspired by someone posting about their Deck randomly turning off at certain light-levels.) 4) After plugging it in.
  • The battery capacity s

The game has a Platinum rating on ProtonDB with all 4 reports saying it works flawlessly (Link)

Apparently, Valve has been handing out Decks to developers left and right. There have also been several people who offered to test any game for devs who don’t have a Deck.

Sorry if this was already mentioned in the Blog, but I think it would be another way to advertise the game for, likely, not too much effort. (There’s a good chance that detecting the Playing On Steam Deck flag and changing the button prompts would suffice.)

Fun Fact: This is the game I’ve been waiting for longest. Played the original flash game when it came out, then followed the dev b
