I lost the 'urge' to drink at about 80 days. The epiphany came when I sub consciously , willingly and without hesitation chose an ice cold coke over wanting, imagining and lusting after an alcoholic drink. I now don't mind other people drinking nor do I feel 'left out' or 'cheated'.
When did you lose the 'urge' ? - I'm asking for a friend who wants to know when 'urges' dissipate - or was I very fortunate?
A house my father bought in 1960. - £4800 - don't get envious - I was dis -inherited by my wicked stepmother bar £5000. Luckily my sister and my 2 daughters copped the lot, and fortunately - having staggered and lurched through life -- I have more than enough to enjoy my dotage.
I'm an old bloke and a 90 day sober alcoholic. Was fully functioning ( usually) and working and a respectable ( usually) member of society, - it was just my 'stop button' was broken. If any of you are struggling out there and want to chat about the chaos alcohol can cause and the experiences ( especially the first days) of stopping feel free to chat. I'd like to give back - I'm not an evangelist or tea total nutter .
After 14 years I have finally managed to sign off an email to my 50 year old step son " Love DAD"
Thanks for the invite PoorRingo. I'm 72 and have had been boozing for 50+ years. I was always (mostly) an amicable drinker and functioned well. I didn't consider myself an alcoholic because I worked and held myself together (mostly) in public. The problem is my 'stop' button is broken. Gin was my sin. My wife is now bedbound and on her final journey and I held the purse strings. Not so good because my already high consumption soared. I finally realised that ( for her and myself ) I needed to be sober for her death, sober for her funeral and sober afterwards . I quit cold turkey. My internet went down New Years eve. Only AI computer response from talktalk until 3rd Jan. Got straight through to call centre - booked app't for engineer for next day. No Show! ( We've all heard terrible things about customer service!) Walking down the road this morning I see an Openreach van - knocked on the window and asked if she was coming to me. She said no, not on her list. I went home. She looked up my missed call -phoned her supervisor, knocked on my door and fixed the modem. Yippeee. 105 emails and a premium bond win waiting.
