Thought I’d provide an update on a previous post where three weeks ago I asked if a sub-3 marathon was possible. Basically I’d missed the best part of a training block due to illness, injury and a lack of motivation. I ran the marathon yesterday.

Previous post:

In summary, most responses said 12 weeks of training is for the last 6 miles of a marathon, and that missing such training would likely cause problems. The consensus was that I should take it easy/moderate my goal and take the lessons.

Apologies in advance, lots of numbers.

So I signed up for my first marathon at the beginning of the year. This marathon is in 3 weeks on Sunday. Like most people, I had every intention of completing some form of training and putting the miles in. Also, like most people, that didn't happen due to injury then illness, and admittedly, loss of motivation. I wasn't going to bother running, but in the last last few weeks, I've sought to salvage something and properly assess whether I "fun run" or go for a time. That time was originally supposed to be sub-3 hours, but I suspect that ship has sailed, and want opinions.

Background - I've been running for just over 3 years, and have never been a hu

This post might seem antithetical to a Marathon Training sub, but does/has anyone else trained for a marathon without really having a plan? I'm running my first marathon in May and had a look at some plans a few weeks back, but thought that with my current life circumstances, there's no way I'd be able to stick to it. As such, I intend on doing a few things in place of a structured plan. Those are:

a) get mileage up (normally sit low 30 miles/60km, but will bump up to 40 miles/70kms at minimum, but pref 50 miles/80km))

b) get a long run in (I manage this about once every two weeks)

c) do at least one workout a week (whether it's intervals, threshold etc)

And that's about it. I'm aiming

Race Information

* **Name:** Great Scottish Run

* **Date:** 2 October 2022

* **Distance:** Half Marathon (13.1 miles)

* **Location:** Glasgow, Scotland

* **Time:** 1:19:26

This was to be my first "large" race, with about 9000 participants, and my first half marathon. I'd entered it in March of the previous year when I'd just started running, though it was postponed due to covid, so here I was, 17 months later and a different runner than my predicted 1:30 finish. I was scheduled to start in the White Wave, which would consist of around 3000 runners and had the benefit of starting just behind the elites and "invited club athletes" (fast finishers), so despite

I've quit many times. As such, I've become quite accustomed to the associated acute withdrawal symptoms. However, along with that, and I see this mentioned, though not frequently enough, is my propensity to catch a cold when I'm withdrawing. This isn't just withdrawal symptoms, as it varies when the cold symptoms start. They've been as early as day 2 (my latest and most awful withdrawal experience), and as late as day 10. Basically, my immune system has had the shit boxed out of it, and the last...checks spreadsheet 'cos I'm an autist and record this shit...6 out of 7 times I've quit kratom for more than 5 days, I've caught a cold.

The last quit, as of 6th October, I caught the cold strai

I guess it's time to share my story. The last time I ingested kratom was 17th March. This is the longest I've been clean since I started in October 2011.

It began as it often does. I was the champion weekend warrior, limiting my small doses to Friday and Saturday nights, never using the day before work. I had the "no school night" rule because, unlike the experience of others, kratom royally fucks with my sleep. But Friday and Saturday nights? Hell yeah, bring it on! We gon' be playin' some borin'-ass games spiced up with some chemical love!

My weekend warrior lifestyle lasted about six months. During this time, I scoffed at others becoming addicted on the forum I frequented. Ha, weak-ass
