"In times of stress and danger such as come about as the result of an epidemic, many tragic and cruel phases of human nature are brought out, as well as many brave and unselfish ones.”

― William Crawford Gorgas, Sanitation in Panama

Welcome to r/Epidemic. This subreddit is dedicated to the discussion and following of past or present biological threats to humankind. These can include:

Current Outbreaks and Pandemics
Historic Outbreaks and Pandemics
Biological Warfare or Terrorism

The rules of the subreddit are as followed:

1. Fear mongering will not be tolerated

Discussing potential outbreaks are allowed and encouraged, but outright fear mongering will not be permitted and will lead to a ban. Panic can create more damage than actual pandemics.

2. Spamming is not allowed

Minor outbreaks occur all over the world all the time. Spamming them will not garner more attention, besides that of the mods. If a larger outbreak or epidemic should garner more attention, we will create a megathread for it.

3. Be kind

We are discussing topics that could be potentially sensitive to those around us. If someone is afflicted with a disease or virus, we must acknowledge the situation they are in and be courteous.

4. No brigading or harassing other locations/subreddits

5. Please provide context for discussions

Finally, a big thanks to u/EpidemicBilly for granting us control over this subreddit. Thank you very much!
