I would like to understand the motivations of this subreddit. Can anyone explain to me a few things:

  1. What exactly is modern western software, and why should it be avoided?

  2. What are some examples of modern western software, and what specific qualities about them cause them to be classified as such?

  3. What are some examples of software that is NOT modern western software, and what specific qualities about them cause them to NOT be classified as such?

I'm not really here to debate or troll or anything. I just genuinely have no baseline understanding of what this subreddit is actually about, and I'm curious.

They are full of unnecessary functions and useless animations that makes it a heavy pain in the ass.

Why waste resources on unnecessary functions when I can use them opening more tabs??

Why do they keep making them more resource hungry?? I am sick of chrome. It is too heavy!

They even made fucking apps within the browser! I was typing an address and suddenly a message on the left side says if i wanna send it to another device of mine. WHY do they keep adding annoying shit??

All I want is a browser with dark colors and basic graphics, a browser that has a good bookmark backup functionality and the ability to add ublock origin. Is it too much to ask for??

Project Euler is a website of hard math problems, that users are encouraged to write software to solve. I haven't been to the website in a while, but in the past I have solved around 100 or so problems.

It is usually easy to come up with a brute force solution to most of the Project Euler problems, but the problem is that the brute force solution would take too long to run. A lot of times I would find out that the code that I had written would have to run for literally billions of years in order to find the solution. So I have to find a way to make the code run faster.

When first starting out, my first instinct was to make a bunch of little optimizations. Bit shift instead of multiply by 2

I spent several hours looking through text editors. Not only are they overcomplicated and full of useless features, but there is no way to turn these features off. Specifically I want to turn off auto-indent and syntax coloring. I want a simple editor. But in typical fashion, these disgusting text editors force their horrible features on users. How typical of intolerant modern culture, forcing its depravity on the world.

Of course the most popular text editors are the worst, since modern scum love what is bad and hate what is good. In the end, I found 2 tolerable text editors - Noto and CodeRunner. Neither i

Each social niche is dominated by one company. Examples include Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. This is because people will always want to be in the social network with the most users in order to get the most exposure. That is why I am on Reddit. And that is why these are natural monopolies. These monopolies currently exploit their position to impose censorship against views they oppose. This effectively destroys free speech. What can be done about this?

The obvious solution would be to apply existing law. Under current law, a company can either be a publisher or a platform. If a c

Git is the worst source control system ever developed. Anyone who voluntarily uses Git deserves to be shot. Of course modern scum love Git, because modern scum love what is horrible and hate what is good. Mercurial is basically functionally equivalent to Git but is fairly good, so naturally modern scum overwhelmingly prefer Git to Mercurial. Good programmers (who reject modern software and modern culture) should use Mercurial.

I spent the last few hours trying to get the Google Analytics Measurement Protocol to work. My queries validated fine but nothing showed up in Google Analytics reports. After searching for hours and trying all kinds of suggestions, I saw a suggestion to set the "user-agent" header. So I set "user-agent" to "fuck google" and then everything worked fine.

This type of random nonsensical bullshit is typical of modern software.

A few weeks ago I was visiting my grandparents and for breakfast they served me some of the best coffee I had ever tasted. I asked them what kind of coffee it was and said it was just regular Folger's coffee. This puzzled me because I drink Folger's coffee at work and it does not taste that great. But then I learned my grandparents were using a device called a percolator to brew their coffee:

I believe this is the reason the coffee they served me tasted superior.

On our app we have a "Log in with Google" option, and I noticed that we get around 10 times more revenue from clicks from users who "Log in with Google" than users who are not logged in. The "Log in with Google" is currently not required, and is hard to find (you have to go to the options menu to be able to log in).

Should I force users to log in with Google from now on? I hesitate because you don't really need to log in to enjoy the app, so it seems to me like it would be immoral to force users to log in.

Also, forcing users to log in would make it easier to program some features that appeal to modern scum. Right now, I have two versions of code for certain features - one for scum who log

An old Japanese proverb teaches that a garden is not complete until nothing more can be removed. It is the same with software.

First remove all useless features and code. Then remove non-essential code and possibly replace it by generalizing essential code. Don't worry about backward compatibility. Simplicity is more important.

My Luan code has only gotten smaller and simpler over time as I keep removing what I find not to be essential. In many cases this means removing features that I added because I thought they were gre

I use SMTP2GO as my SMTP server. It is the only service that I can think of that hasn't gotten worse over time. The company is located in New Zealand, a safe distance from the depravity of Silicon Valley.

In theory SMTP should be simple. But in practice it is complicated by the security obstacles that depraved Silicon Valley companies like Google have added. If you don't handle this properly, your users won't get their emails. SMTP2GO takes care of all this, so I don't have to. SMTP2GO is good software.
