The Hyperion Cantos

is a series of science fiction novels by Dan Simmons.

Set in the far future, and focusing more on plot and story development than technical detail, it falls into the soft science fiction category, and could be described as space opera.

The title was originally used for the collection of the first pair of books in the series, [Hyperion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperion_(Simmons_novel\)) and [The Fall of Hyperion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fall_of_Hyperion_(novel\)), and later came to refer to the overall story line, including [Endymion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endymion_(Simmons_novel\)), The Rise of Endymion, and a number of short stories.

Within the fictional story line, the Hyperion Cantos is an epic poem written by the character Martin Silenus.
