21 things you only know if you dislike dogs

The Dog Delusion

This is a community where those who do not like or own dogs can meet to commiserate about what we must endure against our will and to engage in constructive discussions related to the issue. We are not here to debate, as we won't change our minds.

Please read our FAQ.

Restricted Topics

###No Animal Abuse or Violence

No suggesting, depicting, joking, wishing for, or celebrating violence or harm to dogs, other animals, or people. Promoting cruelty, even hypothetically, is not acceptable.

###No Disclaimers

Posts and comments expressing the sentiment 'I don't hate dogs, but' or 'I love dogs, but' will be removed, as they miss the intent of the sub and are insulting to our members.
Similarly, though we don't have to agree on everything, posts and comments should be made in good faith and should not attempt to change our members' minds.
Mods reserve the right to take action against those exhibiting trolling behavior.
This sub is for those who do not like or own dogs. Weigh-in from dog owners is off topic and disallowed.

###Cats are off topic

This is neither a pro- nor anti-cat sub. Our various opinions of cats are inconsequential to the topic of dogs and their impact on society.
Comparisons of dogs vs. cats or dog owners vs. cat owners are explicitly disallowed.
This is not the place to mention your experiences with cats.

###Bigotry is not allowed

You are free to offer your opinion respectfully, but comments or posts intended to demean a group (such as a religion, race, gender, political affiliation, etc), expressions of bigotry and prejudice, and the pejorative use of slurs are not allowed. Don't bait others into breaking this rule.

###No low-effort/low-quality posts

Not everything that involves a dog belongs here.
Submissions should be thoughtful and should promote quality discussion. News articles and text posts are encouraged. Pictures of dogs or dog-related items, videos of dogs doing gross things, social media screen shots, memes, title-only posts, posts with minimal text, and anything that might be found on r/aww are some examples of low-effort content that do not contribute anything of value to the conversation.
Memes and comics are at home over at our sister sub, r/dogfreehumor.

###Avoid reposting

We don't need to see another copy of the same thing that's already on the front page, so before you post, check whether or not your content has already been posted by someone else recently. A quick skim through the first page or two of post titles is very helpful for this.
If your post has a different angle on the same subject, or more information, that's fine.
News articles should be recent.

###Direct content to relevant subreddits

r/dogfree operates alongside a couple sister subs.
Humor-related posts should be redirected to r/dogfreehumor.
For those those unwillingly living with dogs owned by others, whether it be a significant other, parents, extended family, or a roommate, or for those in a serious relationship, live-in or otherwise, dominated by a dog, please use r/TalesFromTheDoghouse.

###No Crossposts

Crossposts are not allowed.
Criticisms of other subreddits and or their users are off-topic.
Mentions of other subreddits are not allowed.

###No Soliciting

No soliciting or self-promotion. This includes but is not limited to goods, services, content, online forums, crowdfunding, or recruitment efforts.

###Moderators Have Discretion

This is a community for those who do not like or own dogs to discuss modern-day dog ownership and its effects on society. Conversation should stay on topic.
Cats, other pets, childbearing choices, politics, religion, and bestiality, among other subjects, are generally off topic and beyond the scope of the sub.
Mods are committed to making all decisions in the best interest of our sub, so we reserve the right to restrict topics/remove content deemed off topic or otherwise not constructive.

###No Self Defense Discussion

Self defense posts and comments, both hypothetical or otherwise are not permitted in this subreddit, even if it is legal in your locale. This rule extends to defense of others.
