##The Races of Starbound:

Humans

Earth was invaded and possibly destroyed by an alien tentacle monster from beyond the stars, unwillingly forcing Humanity into the galactic community. Most of the survivors have come together under the remnants of the USCM, but others have escaped into the stars to become bandits and pirates.

Hylotl

With an appreciation for all that is beautiful in the cosmos, especially themselves, the Hylotl are a vegetarian aquatic race, who wish to spread their message of peace to the other, more brutish species of the universe. Even if they're not particularly willing to associate with them.

Glitch

Abandoned by their long-dead creators, the Glitch were a part of a grand experiment to model the development of civilizations. All the other experiments eventually destroyed themselves with technology, but due to their namesake "glitch", the Glitch are perpetually stuck in a medieval setting. But there are those that have broken free from their programming.

Apex

Once human-like in appearance, the Apex traded physical progress for mental prowess, and are now hyper-intelligent Ape-men. Ruled by the authoritarian Ministry of Knowledge, or "Miniknog", and their leader Big Ape, there are those who are beginning to question if their oppression is the only way of life.

Avian

Dying on their own planet, the Avians were saved and accelerated into a space-faring society by an advanced being that took pity on them. Unable to understand the gift they'd been given, the Avians began to worship their savior as a god named Kluex, preaching that it was he who removed their wings as punishment for their sins. However, now that the Avians have become exposed to the universe and ideas beyond their own, some have begun to doubt the legitimacy of their god.

Floran

Violent and dangerous, the Floran are a mysterious species. Their plant origins suggest a more peaceful demeanor, but their affinity for stabbing says otherwise. Driven by the desire to hunt, Florans scavenge technology from unwitting adventurers and scientists, and use it to spread themselves across the stars. However not all Florans are as aggressive as their kin.

Novakid

With their bodies comprised of plasma, and the mysterious brand on their face, the Novakids were born from the hearts of stars and nebulae, and are a testament to the infinite oddities of the cosmos. The oldest known race, the Novakids are still relatively underdeveloped: their nature makes them energetic and forgetful, and any significant advances are lost within a generation or two. However, their curiosity and adventurous spirit ensure that they will continue to explore.
