The Jesus For NZ group on FB is an absolutely cooked bunch of anti govt, anti vax christo-fascists.
Hope someone gets questioned about this.
Presumably once the 60 odd MPs making up the governing party become National MPs (plus associated politically appointed staffers) they are no longer anti gov?
Under his eye
Blessed be the fruit
The wind of change here certainly comes from an eye.
More like an arse
Exactly, the brown eye.
Sauron is back?
Religion and politics should not mix. Disgusting behaviour for an MP.

Son, look at theocratic societies and tell me if you'd live there.

Their religious beliefs by definition conflict with others beliefs. They only way to ensure people can practice their own religion freely is a secular government.
A secular government means not caring about his religious beliefs.
Not at all. It could, and in fact could legislate to ban or persecute religious worship. Of course you’re into the realm of fiction really, there’s been no democratic secular states that have done that of course.
But it doesn’t have to. It could support the human rights declarations and a persons right to practice their faith.
There's a difference between representing views, and letting religion dictate.
And right leaning people on this subreddit don’t believe me when I say I witnessed firsthand a Christian takeover in the National party. LOL!

Holy what the fuck
Seriously??? That is sick. Please do not let these people end up as the government.
It's like the National Party answer to Isreal Folau.
They never should have answered that question.
He's in parliament

Christians are just freaking out and going hard-line because they're a fucking endangered species. The data says so.
Oh no people cam chose their religion and are NOT choosing to be aligned with them. - there is a lot of good reasons for that. They aren't endangered their ideals and actions are. They are still human just not superior to any other religious group - try as they might. Trying to control the population and laws isn't 'freaking out' it is inline with their views and suppression on anything 'not christain'.

It's appalling. Religious fanatics should stick to god-bothering and steer well clear of law making.
Like any belief system, there are those who take it way too far and those sort of fundamentalists should not be in power. People who hope for better or who try to be better are fine.
Please link to any events such as this they have hosted at parliament?
Edit - or indeed that their beliefs are. Genuine question
Look it up yourself. I’m just saying there were 9 Labour MPs who voted last year against abortion reform. To me that’s far worse than someone holding prayer meetings. Not that they are Labour, that anyone has such antiquated views.
I agree. Not in a position to look it up now but I’m guessing Simon O’Connor voted against it as well. You seemed to be making it about race when the discussion was about religion.
Edit spelling
Found some time to look it up. The vote was in 2020 and yes, 9 labour MPs voted against it. 35 National MPs did including O’Connor. You are clearly a do your own research troll and I did. As I suspected you made it about race.
Didn’t make it about race. Should have left the Samoan part out but know at the time there was lots of pressure from churches in Auckland. Made it about people having poor judgement being in parliament. But sure be upset, what can you do.
We're all who voted against, religiously affiliated?
There was 51 no votes on the abortion vote, assuming ACT, Te Pāti Māori and Greens are 100% anti abortion that is still 20 National MPs voting against abortion. But if a weird play to defend two National MPs who voted against abortion law reform, to bring up other people who voted against abortion law reform to say hosting an event in Parliament isn’t as bad as voting against abortion law reform (both Ngaro and Brown along with at least 18 other National MPs voted against abortion law reform)
I genuinely didn’t realise how many National MPs must have voted against the bill I thought it would have been like a dozen at most.
Edit: oops just realised it was last parliament, where ACT, NZF and Greens shared 18 MPs meaning at least 24 National MPs voted no to abortion law reform.
35 National MPs were against it. This person singled out not just Labour but their Samoan MPs. Says all I need to know when defending white guys like O’Connor. Even Luxon asked O’Connor to take down a post celebrating the decision about Roe V Wade in the US and anyone with half a brain knows that was only about optics.
Just people are up in arms as it’s National - it’s a larger issue than that.
Look it up yourself.
No. You're the one making this claim, now back it up.
No thanks.
He's a nasty piece of work.
Hell awaits, if you believe in that crap.
A National and ACT Coalition would be difficult enough without including the influence of these sorts of lunatics..
Manifest destiny in a new funky fresh style!
Don't even need his name in the title to instantly know which MP it is...
MP for Tamaki. He's been in parliament since 2011 and has never been close to the front bench. He's a lightweight.
Shame on them. Stealing from Scorpions.
Bangin tune that
The classic "anti big government!" Christians who want a big government that'll push only their views and agenda.
Completely unrelated other than the text from the poster.. but Wind of Change is a fantastic podcast series.

It’s 1990. The Berlin Wall has just come down. The Soviet Union is on the verge of collapse. A heavy metal band from West Germany, the Scorpions, releases a power ballad, “Wind of Change.” The song becomes the soundtrack to the peaceful revolution sweeping Europe — and one of the biggest rock singles ever. According to some fans, it’s the song that ended the Cold War. Decades later, New Yorker writer Patrick Radden Keefe hears a rumor from a source: the Scorpions didn’t actually write “Wind of Change.” The CIA did.
It really really is fantastic.

And the takeover of the National party by fundamentalist Christian nutcase rolls on
I find it repulsive, but is this especially new for National?
At least in relatively modern times, National's always described itself as a broad church party that tries to cater to many different groups and resolve the differences inside the party.
Also, some groups like this have vast amounts of money to donate, plus it's not a trivially small demographic. You just have to look at the 2014 election when National was struggling with all the dirty politics allegations. It managed to do enough to stay in government against a dysfunctional Labour, but at the same time the religious zealot Conservative Party also reached (and wasted, from National's perspective) nearly 4%. Under MMP that's easily a difference between winning and losing. Even if it's a likely ally who gets them, it gives the ally a lot more power in the relationship.
These are the sorts of votes that National gets almost by default many years unless they feel too alienated. It'll be tougher this year with ACT being more established, which might be why we're seeing stuff like this in effort to keep them on side.
Not new, there’s various factions within the party, the conservative god botherers are currently doing well, power wise, the urban liberals terribly for example.
Doesn’t make much difference, atheist and Christian conservatives love screwing the poor
Man’s 21st on the national party list
Luxon is also a fundie
He's in one of the safest seats in the country. He doesn't need the list
So he is in parliament, that is the only important fact. This has gotten traction and must be assumed it's supported by the national party. If not then it says bad things about nationals hold on its own mebers.
