Sunset
I drink a setting sun from glass
The vinyl crackle calls the ghosts
Alone, I do romance the past
With drink in hand, I give this toast
To friendships only children know.
And the secret places children go.
To dragons slain on summer break
And bunkers built in fallen snow.
To children’s sheer innocent fears
I dearly miss the monsters of lore
For good and evil were crystal clear
And Mom could banish beasts with horns
Cheers to family meals together
Another cheer for thinking they’d last
The food was great, the company better
The movie nights we snacked and laughed
To jumping high off swings in parks
My father helped me hold the seam
To scary stories after dark
Her voice still rings within my dreams
To rocks I skipped, and trees I climbed
Summer was good, autumn divine
And here, on the far side of a long time
I drove past that old house and cried
The flame of youth does burn fierce and bright
It often fades, and leaves us disenchanted
I’ve kept an ember to warm myself at night
My thanks and love to all I took for granted

This is amazing! I dont know if i misinterpreted this piece but it seems the writer is craving that feeling of the past where things were simpler! It just brings back so many memories! It gives you the prompts to remember your child instead of making you imagine someone else’s! Well rounded, easy flowing and so bittersweet!
Thank you for the kind words. You definitely did not misinterpret. That’s exactly what I was going for
Well it worked and your welcome!
