Sitting under stars
Pulling lines from the ether
Perfect words from God
Trickled down through faulty
human mind mechanics
Should my pen even once
Produce words that move the soul
It will surely be
A speck of the divine
That my faults did not destroy
Gravity
That oppressive prick
Always holding us down
He says it might help with my anxiety and restlessness since we may need to stay in this attic for quite a while.
I walk the rivers edge as evening dies
And natures darkest purple holds the skies
When June’s oppressive sun is headed west
A raging eye beyond the woodland crest
When lightning bugs mimic early stars
And hardened men from mills arrive at bars
I walk to find that quiet voice I knew
Beneath the river sounds, I know it’s you
O muse, I miss the days you’d guid my gaze
This poets light is dim from work and age
My dearest friend, of dusk and cricket song
I’ll walk til dawn, if you’ll only come along
Allow my eyes to See the night again
And find my reason to use this dusty pen
To be concerned with heavens sacred hues

Amongst the gracious grit of Colfax Ave,
We laugh and share secrets over spirits.
The beauty of her golden pecan eyes
Rivals the greatest lines of prose or lyrics.
I’ll ignore the mighty thunder of august,
Just to hear her softly spoken story,
When she sank to darkness and rose a Goddess.
This tree, so old and tired, groans but won’t
Snap. Her arms, seasoned now, are heavy.
This frosted crown atop her blooming brow
Flusters her birds and dulls their cawing medley
A cardinal woke to find the hues of spring
Wiped away. She flutters down to the powder
A dash of blood upon the fallen snow
The only color in the open field below
I drink a setting sun from glass
The vinyl crackle calls the ghosts
Alone, I do romance the past
With drink in hand, I give this toast
To friendships only children know.
And the secret places children go.
To dragons slain on summer break
And bunkers built in fallen snow.
To children’s sheer innocent fears
I dearly miss the monsters of lore
For good and evil were crystal clear
And Mom could banish beasts with horns
Cheers to family meals together
Another cheer for thinking they’d last
The food was great, the company better
The movie nights we snacked and laughed
To jumping high off swings in parks
My father helped me hold the seam
Sly is the wind of fading summer
Stirring leaves from blissful slumber
The sudden strike of natures lance
And all the trees will hiss and dance
The wicked wind from fields of east
It carry’s scents of earth and beast
And brings a message to all in bloom
The winters fangs will bear your doom
Kicking cans without a pardon
Dragging hands upon the garden
Snaking in to possess the curtain
Flowers shake, for death is certain

I walk through the double doors,
Sounds of traffic and bustle snuffed
Out by the interior’s gentle silence.
Near the door, I see the disbelief check
I’ll hang mine here like an ugly old coat
Good riddance. Its full of holes anyway.
I smell coffee and hear the flutter
of pages as I glide across the soft
carpet and up the stairs to fiction
I lose myself in a maze of stories
Oblivious as time ticks in reverse
Below towering shelves, I am twelve again
The sea has taken the ship.
You’re now stranded alone,
Kick, and try to stay afloat
Above Poseidon’s throne.
Feel the rock of the waves
And taste their salted crests
Beneath your kicking feet
Eternal lightless depths
Stirring in the abyss
Awakened beast from darkness
Come the eater of ships
Colossal and heartless
Maker of tsunamis
Pale death of the deep
Leviathan rising
He’ll drag you under to feast
Thunder rolls, waves crash
Impartial to your screams of pain
Nearly bitten in half
Descending fast to black
In the graveyard of brave hearts
The pressure will crush your skull
Too dark for God to see
Devoured in a shi
