I was a much bigger fan of Hendricks before he started talking. I got a chance to interview him for SBNation and he was such a humble man, hopeful about his future but still reserved with his expectations. He now seems like a completely different man. He might be the #1 contender, but he shouldn't feel entitled to the title shot, it's the UFC's call.
i've met hendricks too, he's a cool dude. he is only doing this for some publicity/exposure/interest. unfortunately, it is coming off the wrong way to a lot of people. i can understand his frustration though, but given how things have always been ran at UFC, he should've been expecting some BS.

He really needs a world-class mic-skills coach on the payroll if he wants that title shot.
I seriously doubt GSP is afraid of Hendricks. He was supposed to fight Diaz before and it didn't happen, so now he's looking to get that fight. Maybe Hendricks will be after Nick.
GSP is fighting Diaz next for 3 reasons:
Diaz disrespected him, and for the first time it seems like the robot Georges has actual emotions & a beef with another fighter.
Diaz is much more marketable for the UFC, they have proven to put people undeserving of title shots ahead of #1 contenders if it will make them $$$.
If GSP and Diaz don't fight now, there is a very real possibility that Nick Diaz won't beat any of the UFC top contenders at welterweight, thus he might not be able to earn a legitimate shot at the belt.
And if Nick gets pretty lucky, Hendricks just might fight Nick.
GSP was willing to give up his belt to fight Diaz--that's a legitimate beef. If Hendricks wants to complain he should be calling out Dana. It's not GSP's job to worry about Hendricks' career aspirations.
i am really starting to hate this guy...i think he's gonna ruin his ufc stock if he continues to wait.
Wow people think about how this guy feels. Put yourself in his shoes for one second.
He sees guys like chael and Diaz getting the nod for a shot, but after all he's done to put on a show for us, the fans, he still gets overlooked for some "beef". What is this wwf?
The guy is on a 5 fight win streak, knocking guys the fuck out, wouldn't you be a little pissed if your hard work wasn't rewarded? What if Diaz does gets the shot and then Johnny ends up fighting a rory or condit and loses? What are people going to say then? That he wasn't ready? If that's the case, neither is Diaz seeing as how the guy is coming off a 1 year suspension and a loss.
What the hell does this guy Hendricks have to do to prove he deserves the shot? Go to middleweight and knock out Anderson silva? He's doing everything he thinks will get him a shot, there's no reason to go against him because he's "tweeting too much".
Tl;dr Hendricks deserves the shot and that's that.
What if Diaz does gets the shot and then Johnny ends up fighting a rory or condit and loses?
Then he really isn't the best of the division and he doesn't deserve the belt then anyways, does he? I see your point from an achieving glory perspective but gaining the belt, and holding the belt are two completely different animals.
I think if he really is as good as he says he is (and don't get me wrong, I'm a Hendricks fan), he shouldn't be scared of fighting a Rory or Condit and losing.
I agree. But you know as well as i do anything can happen in mma. Using your logic, there is no reason for Diaz to get the shot then. His last lost was to the guy who just got beat by gsp, clearly defining that Diaz isn't the top contender. Hendricks on the other hand, is coming off a dominant win.
My point is, there is no reason for Hendricks to have to fight another top contender. He has already proven himself competent enough to take on gsp.
Diaz was the strikeforce champ and on an 11 fight win-streak before Condit and arguably beat him(I disagree but it's been argued endlessly on here). Sounds like contender material to me.
I agree Hendricks shouldn't have to fight another but sometimes if you don't have a big name, you don't get fights. Diaz gets the chance because the UFC sees it as a bigger draw because of his name. I think they both deserve a title fight, but the ufc just happened to decide Diaz was first.
Let's have him fight Condit, clear that hurdle.
Poor guy.
Ok we get it, you're the number one contender now. Shut up.
Its just strange that for some reason number one contender doesn't mean a title shot for him. Everyone else it does...
Not sure this is the right thing for Hendricks to say, it's pretty desperate and didn't Weidman try this after the whole Silva thing blew up?
I don't know, it's shit for him, he obviously deserves the shot IMO, and I'm not sure when he'll get it. When GSP mauls Nick they'll talk about another superfight again. I think his only option is to make a fight with Carlos or Rory and take one of their heads off (if those two aren't already matched against each other). Then Silva & co won't really have a choice but to make the match up.
I think Hendricks deserves his shot. Nick Diaz is going to lose to GSP the same way he lost to Condit and Nate lost to Bendo. I don't care how many times he screams 209 or calls GSP a bitch or a pussy, I don't think it'll be an entertaining fight.
GSP might actually hurt him in the standup. Nick Diaz just plods forward like a zombie, he will be a moving target.
I bet he gets mauled just like Koschek did in the second fight. Maybe not a broken orbital bone, but he will probably get busted up. Bulling GSP into the cage where he likes to go to work isn't going to happen. And he won't sucker him into a hockey fight where they stand in front of each other and swing away.
Give GSP Diaz after he fights Hendricks. This is fucking unreal. If GSP loses, it makes sense at least. If GSP wins, I don't give a fuck, just as long as Hendricks gets his title shot. He is at this point the only person I see deserving the titleshot, as every other contender has lost to this point. We had plenty of straight shot deserving contenders, until Hendricks rose above them all. He's the only one at the moment who should fight for it. Ufc gives GSP diaz and I'll poop myself. It'll be a worse decision then chael vs jones (what the fuck lol).
It is all about the $. Diaz vs GSP is the bigger fight, plus GSP is calling him out. This will generate interest in the fight.
Hendrix is quickly becoming my favorite fighter, he's a power house and a nice guy to boot, but yeah, he needs to chill because he won't be beating GSP anytime soon, he needs some more top flight fights under his belt first in my opinion, he's took out some greats now, just a few more and I think he'll be ready for GSP. You don't need to rush into a fight like this!
He beat Fitch and Kos. I don't think there are much more tests to prove that he is a legit number 1 contender. I don't think he will be able to beat GSP, but he certainly deserves the shot.
I'm amused that almost instantly after one of the MMA journos wrote about how Hendricks had gone from being a loud, brash "heel" of a college wrestler to a Southern, aww shucks-sayin, folksy hero in MMA he turns on the loud-mouth to try and get a shot at GSP.
He deserves to be pissed off, as much as I like both the diaz brothers I really can't agree with Nick getting the shot over Hendricks. The dude has beaten three top ten, arguably top 5, guys in a row.
Not many people want to see Hendricks vs Gsp over Gsp vs Nick Diaz. You don't have to like Diaz to want to see that fight. I will buy the Diaz vs Gsp payperview for sure. If it was Gsp vs Hendricks I would go to sleep and read about the fight the next day.
Hendricks is the most deserving of the title shot.
I think it's probably a matter of money with GSP. More pay-per-view buys if he fights Diaz instead of Hendricks. Also, lets not forget that Nick should probably be the #1 contender anyway...
I don't see his rush to get put on his back for 5 rounds.
I see what you did there.
Surprisingly I didn't try to do that. After I posted I was like "dohoho. RUSH." Sigh. I get bored at my jobs some days, lol.
I just think GSP has other fighters on his mind and Hendricks should wait in line like everybody else it isn't like kempman hasn't been knocked out before.
Nick Diaz has 2 fights in the UFC in recent history. One was a dominant win over BJ Penn, who just got dominated again in a very similar fashion by another welterweight. The other was a loss, albeit a close one, over Carlos Condit who just lost to GSP. He then got suspended following a drug test. In any case, Diaz is 1-1 in his latest run in the UFC.
Since Nick returned to the UFC, Hendricks has won three fights, with two of those wins being brutal knockouts against top 5 fighters. You could make the argument that Koscheck was or wasn't a top 5 fighter at the time, but he was definitely top 10.
Based on that alone, if anyone should be at the front of the line for the WW title shot, it should be Hendricks
Ugh this guy is getting annoying.
dude needs to relax, too many twitter posts about him wanting a shot at GSP.
GSP is going to have to go through nick first, which will have the same results as henderson vs nate diaz.
Why not? It worked for Chael Sonnen.
His posts are not even remotely entertaining though
Motherfucker needs a ghost writer.
Maybe Hendricks should call out Anderson then.
"Yo Anderson GSP was too chicken shit to take you on and since I'm going to be the next welterweight champion anyways, You vs me superbowl weekend and tell your wife I like my steak rare" love Johny H
true, but i think at this point, many people are getting constantly annoyed at his twitter posts constantly asking for a tittle shot. It's been less than a month and i always see a hendricks twitter post every 1-2 weeks.
So 2 to 4?

Charisma. (also content, chael got the shot then started talking shit, in an entertaining manner to get inside Silvas head. Hendricks is coming off as a desperate whiny baby)

Right, because defeating two top ten fighters in Bisping and Stann had nothing to do it.
He didnt start till he actually got the shot, actually signed the contract got, not a we'll see what happens got. Also, you cannot shit talk GSP in the same way you can Silva. Silva was hated by 99% of the fanbase till the first sonnen fight. Gsp is loved by 99% of the fanbase. He got the rematch because Silva/sonnen 2 was a drawing fight, he also beat 2 tough guys to get it.
If I were Hendricks I would be fuming too. I would be pissed off every time I even thought about it if I were him. But life isn't fair, the most qualified person doesn't always get the opportunity.
I do think you're right, GSP will win an easy decision over Nick. Hendricks could use the extra time to add some kicks to his striking.
That's retarded. The size difference between GSP and Nick Diaz is nowhere near as great as it was between Bendo and Nate. If you think GSP is coming out of this fight unscathed you're dumb.
Benson's dominance had less to do with his (still significant) size advantage than it did with his smart gameplan. He never let Nate get into proper boxing range; he hammered his legs with kicks from a distance and immediately went for the clinch when Diaz closed the distance. He then took him down at will when the opportunity presented itself. If his dominance was mainly due to a size advantage, Benson would have done much better against Frankie Edgar.
While there are subtle differences between their styles, Nick and Nate are very similar. We've seen Nick get pressured by good wrestlers in the past, like what happened to Nate. Granted, that was years ago, but the GSP of today is also several levels above any of those fighters in their prime. In addition, we've also recently seen how Condit was able to frustrate Diaz with kicks and by avoiding the cage. GSP isn't as creative with his kicks as Condit, but his kicks have power behind them.
I'm very curious to see if GSP will ever shoot for the takedown. He avoided Shields on the ground like he was a puddle of AIDS. Diaz's BJJ is up to par. I think most of the fight will be standing at distance. Hopefully Diaz has learned from the Condit fight that he has to close distance.
Good point. I think GSP will likely keep the fight standing for the most part, but I don't think he'll be afraid to shoot if he sees a good opening or especially if he has an opportunity to bypass Nick's guard. He'll likely be cautious and let Nick stand up at least once, but I doubt he'll avoid going to the ground completely because Nick is a very different fighter than Shields; Nick poses a danger in the striking department whereas Shields' only real chance of winning was on the ground
