Just tell me I made the right decision.

Not much needed in the way of advice, just putting it out there.

So, me and the girlfriend just AGREED to split up. Which sucks, beause mutual love just doesn't extinguish like I've usually broken up with people.

There was quite a huge age gap, with me having settled down and she having a need to do everything, all the time, preferably at the same time.

She's pretty, smart and funny, and I really really did love her.

But still we agreed that I needed an amount of attention she just couldn't give, and that neithet of us would really be happy with that. I needed attention she couldn't give, and this wasn't fair to neither of us. I became unhappy and depressed because I got too little attention, she was feeling like the worst girlfriend ever for not being able to give more.

So we agreed to split. Because we didn't want to waste each others time with bad emotions.

So I'm kind of stuck here, probably at the stage called "bargaining".

Just tell me I made the right call. Because I'm sure as hell not sure.

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got, and you'll always feel what you always felt.

If you honestly feel that it's better off, then it is. It's not up to others to judge if your action was the right call or not. If you believe it to be the right call, then it was.

In my opinion, if you both weren't happy then it was the right decision. But like I said, it's not up to others to judge your actions. Only yourself.

You made the right decision. But be happy now.

Been there. You didn't know it was true love until it felt like true love. And the next time you feel it it will surprise you just as much. But you'll never feel the next time if you're only thinking about the last time.

There was a time when I had a similar situation with my current girlfriend. We never got to the point where we thought it would be better to mutually end the relationship. A few times we said we might be better off being friends, because it was so hard to find a compromise without losing too much of ourselves. That never lasted more than a few hours.

Looking back, I believe it would have been better to change the state of our relationship. There's this pressure to be everything that a couple should be, but if the love is there, it manifests in it's own way. For Danielle and I, it wold have been better to live happily apart for that time. We could have not felt obligated to uphold that image of two people in love and in an active relationship. We just couldn't. We still loved each other, but we were in two very different places. She found it hard to be a full time girlfriend, and I found it hard to be a part time boyfriend. We weren't happy.

What I'm trying to say, is that if your love is genuine, you will have obey what your love requires of you. That might mean just waiting for her. Taking the blows for a greater purpose. Maybe you need to separate. Maybe you can't find a place for your love in between your two very different lives. It's not really going to be as easy as yes or no, even if you decide to stay apart forever and simply move on.

For me, it was a matter of sticking out the depression, keeping as focussed in my own life as she was in hers. Just because I was able to give her my world, didn't mean I had to. It simply wasn't worth her time, and it was making her feel obligated to make more time for me. So I worked on my own, gave her the attention she needed, and she gave me the attention that she could. It worked out because our lives changed, not because we managed to deal with living like that, because we never could.

It's supposed to hurt. That's the thing about people going through break-ups. They expect everything to be ok, but you just lost something you cared about. It isn't right away and THAT is ok. Give it time.
