I may be wrong but... wasn't this how the missile operator mode was intended to work for all the multicrew ships?

71
MichaCazarCrash(land)ing since 2014•

Yup. At least, that's how they talked about it back in the day.

19
snakesbbq•

You can do it in the Corsair. The problem is it breaks a bunch of stuff for the pilot.

16
Steinchenoldman•

Also works in the MSR

5
TherealKafkatrap•

So it doesn't work on the Corsair.

5
Ok-Fly-2275origin•

It works fine on Corsair, problem is copilot gets power triangle control which makes no sense for anyone but pilot to have

1
TheKingStrangerOPworm•

Kind of. You're supposed to be able to fire missiles from the copilot seat, but I think the key difference here is being able to lock on and fire from all angles.

4
Akaradrin•

You already can do that with all the ships. Imo, the novelty here is the implementation of a remote camera for the Scorpius Antares (the copilot was "blind" before), what I don't understand is why they aren't implementing the missile operator option to the base Scorpius copilot too.

6
TheKingStrangerOPworm•

The camera allows you to easily follow targets even if they're not in your frontal view, and without the need for head tracking (which doesn't let you see through your ship) so I don't know what's confusing about it?

4
Akaradrin•

That this is already working with some ships, (you can use the missile operator mode in the Corsair remote turret), but also is not working for some ships (like the standard Scorpius). And originally CIG said that that you'll be able to use the missile operator mode from the copilot seats.

So I don't know what is the plan now. Is intended that you'll only be able to use the missile operator mode if you're in a copilot seat and the Antares camera is something special because you can rotate the camera? what if your copilot doesn't have a dedicated seat and is just a gunner? what with the ships that can use it from their remote turrets? and what with the ships that can't?

This is good! Give co-pilots more to do!

41
Dyyrindrake•

Correct me if I'm wrong, but should the CO pilot be able to do everything the pilot does except steer when the pilot is present? I hope this is the beginning of co pilots getting more things to do.

36
tr_9422•

Heck, the pilot should be able to delegate steering if they want to. Plane cockpits have controls for both pilots.

Out of game, that would be handy for being able to go fill up your water or grab a snack or use the bathroom or answer a phone call or a million other interruptions and you could hand off control to your copilot while you're AFK.

41
jrsedwickZeus MkII•

Heck, the pilot should be able to delegate steering if they want to.

They touched on this in a recent ISC. It's not going to happen.

19
tr_9422•

Bummer

I guess in Star Citizen universe if the pilot has a heart attack at low altitude everyone just dies

29
Randomscreename•

What about the Banu Defender?

5
Audiophile_•

Wait really? Do you know which one or when they said that? Sad to hear if so. What is the reasoning?

2

Yes, the idea behind the copilot is to have a backup. They should be able to share everything. I cannot wait to tell the copilot to micro manage capacitor charging and engineering activities.

12
SpaceBearSMO•

The plan that CIG has lade out a few times is that they want people to be able to move all the different utilities to other consols on the ship and give people are you crew (or just in your ship at general) different permissions and levels of access

1
Comment135•

It's good.

It's still a dumb seat. Adding missile control does not make the seat much more than the 2-button situational seat that it was. It's still about as interesting as multicrewing a vulture, having a person sitting around doing nothing but move a box every minute or two.

1

The changes to the Vulture in 3.22 are great! You only have to move boxes when you have a full load. No more running back and forth

2
Comment135•

Wait what? I didn't catch that. That solves everything.

2
TheKingStrangerOPworm•

Hi everyone,

Following our recent Patch Watch post, we're back with some new (and exciting) information that came to light that will impact Scorpius Antares pilots in Alpha 3.22.

As of the latest EPTU build, we've added a new feature to the Antares, which allows the co-pilot to now control the Remote Turret Camera. More importantly, the co-pilot will also now have primary control over missiles when the seat is occupied (when flying solo, these will remain with the pilot).

When entering the co-pilot seat's remote turret, you'll find a new option to enter Missile Operator Mode, granting you the ability to both lock on and fire missiles, even if they are outside of the pilot's initial cone of fire****. This is a significant new addition to the ship. Looking to the future, this is the same functionality that will be set up on the RSI Polaris when it becomes flight ready.

While the functionality will make it in for Alpha 3.22, not all of the dashboard art changes have been implemented. So, if you're looking for how to enable this new mode, simply look to the left of the QD buttons.

We hope you enjoy this change and look forward to hearing your thoughts once you give it a go in-game.

Just give pilot and co-pilot access to everything. Realistically, being solo and having access to everything like EMP/QED will make the pilots job harder. If there’s a co-pilot it will be much easier. No need to restrict what can and can’t be done by each.

30
lostincomputer•

Exactly!!!!! should be standard across the board.

-Remote combat turrets follow pilot input until someone takes control of them. -Equipment is controlled by default by the pilot until someone takes control

16
dudushat•

Pretty sure that's their plan and this is one of the steps toward making it happen.

3

Hope so. I love the Antares.

2
KaiyanwanReliant Tana•

Now bring it to the Reliant Tana pls.

24

Step by step we can actually be happy they did it with the Antares

12
Agitated-Ad-8325•

To be fair, the Antares having a co pilot was a bad idea from the start , it should have been a solo seater

19
North-Borne•

I think it was fine being a 2 seater, but they needed to give the co-pilot twin size 2 guns so that they have something to do in a fight while not invalidating the base Scorpius.

12
TherealKafkatrap•

Hell I'd be happy if it had 2 size 1 guns, the co-pilot seat is boring af.

4
dg2314•

They should have made it a solo ship 🙄

6
dirkhardslabKraken Perseus Best Friends•

Being doing this in my Corsair since day 1 it released lol

4
evilducky611Argo 2951!•

Good good. One step closer to getting this hopefully over to the gladiator where it is needed.

4
TherealKafkatrap•

The gladiator? What is that? They have a ship called the gladiator? Was it released in 2016 and hasn't been touched since?

I mean if it does exist why don't they have paints for it? CIG knows how paints are literally free money so if the gladiator isn't abandonware why doesn't it have paints?

5
N1tecrawler•

That's a good change

2
raging_pastafarianpolaris | perseus | bmm | carrack | 600i | arrastra | eclipse•

Question...

Looking to the future, this is the same functionality that will be set up on the RSI Polaris when it becomes flight ready.

Does this mean that the pilot on a Polaris will be able to fire its missiles and torpedoes, if there is no one at the missile operator station?

2
FuckingTreeIssue Council Is Life•

Hopium. Much, much more likely that there will be a missile operator function for copilot and that’s the extent of it.

2
K4l3b2k13Bounty Hunter•

Now we just need the seat to have some kind of directed e-war/snare and the ship would be useful once those few missiles are gone.

Maybe an offensive tractor that works like an eve stasis webifier, or a priority target painter for group play?

2
Rivitur•

Cool now how about you go in and give the copilot something to do in the ROC-ds or was that such a money scheme that you all just pretend it doesn't exist?

People buy and fly the anteres...on purpose?

1
ClassicBee97•

Well this is awkward... The ability to purchase a Scorpius in game was removed right around the time when the F8C was released and hasn't been added back since. Patch notes make no mention of it being added back. Not sure how they want users to test this new change.

Not sure how users are supposed to test this change.

-2
CndConnection•

? No....

It's at New Deal both versions.

3
ClassicBee97•

At Hurston ND? Seriously? When did they add it back?

They removed it just when the F8C released... I assume so that people were forced to test or buy the F8C instead.

-1
CndConnection•

I never knew it ever left or anything like that, your comment is the first I ever read about it not being available.

I was there last Friday with serious option paralysis and was unable to decide on a ship to buy at ND. Scorpius was 100% there so was the Antares as I had selected them many times almost clicking buy lol

3
ClassicBee97•

CIG removed a bunch of ships since 3.20 or so. Another one that is 100% still missing is the C8R Pisces as well. You can only get the other Pisces variants not the medical on in game.

I used to go off this list as well, but then I noticed the scorpius, pisces and maybe 1 more are not available for purchase any more: https://uexcorp.space/ships

-1
Puckaryan•

Was able to buy the base scorp at ND 2 or more weeks ago during an org event in the PU. The Antares was also present but didn't purchase it.

2
ClassicBee97•

Wish they would announce when they're removing or adding ships to purchase in game.

I do know for a fact the C8R pisces is not purchasable in game as it was taken out around the same time.

-3
SylverV•

Hm. Knowing CIG this is the first step to removing it from the pilot.

-9
logicalChimpDevils Advocate•

Unlikely, if only because it would likely have been far easier to remove it from the pilot and assign it to the co-pilot, than it would be to add the functionality to only assign it to the copilot if they're present, else default it back to the pilot.

That said, I think I would have preferred for the assignment to be under pilot control, rather than done automatically... if I'm using the second seat to taxi someone, I may not want them to have control over weapons :D

5
SylverV•

That said, I think I would have preferred for the assignment to be under pilot control, rather than done automatically

All jokes aside, yes, that's how it needs to be. And I need profiles for my ship so I can save different control setups and access levels.
