Building Free Open Source Projects on H4 Visa Without EAD

Hello I'm just wondering if this is allowed because when I search online some say yes and some say no.

To be clear, I do not want to get paid. An example would be creating open source software projects on Github. No donations etc. In fact, the projects I want to create would make the USC or GC holders more productive in their work, instead of trying to replace them.
