Love Beyond the Grave - Recap Ep 11-12 - Immortal Assassination Attempt

Novel fan translation: Love Beyond the Grave
Main characters: He Simu, fake name He Xiaoxiao, Sovereign of Spirits

Ep 11: Duan Xu went to He Simu's room because without touch, he woke up thinking he was dead and couldn't get back to sleep.
Side note: neurologists actually separate "touch" into several senses: pain, heat/cold detection, what we consider touch/feel, and then proprioception, where your own body is in space. Duan Xu seems to have lost all of these which I have to imagine would be hella disorienting. They are considered separate senses because they have different receptors and people can not have one of them (for example, people can be born without the perception of pain). Anyway
Duan Xu thinks that He Simu's parents must have been very kind people to teach her so much about being mortal even though she was born as a ghost. They have a meal so that He Simu can experience food textures:

Poor little Xue Chenying feels like a third wheel and doesn't understand why his "sister" is eating so much and acting so strangely.
Duan Xu gives He Simu a fox toy because she likes fur so much, she tries to pretend she doesn't love it while also rubbing it all over her face
Xue Chenying gets separated from He Simu and ends up trapped in a barrier. A black smoke tells him that He Simu is fake and appears to attack him. He Simu cannot find Chenying but it participating in the festival anyway. She thinks that Chenying might be inside the ox statue. A man shows up, claims there is an evil spirit nearby, and breaks Chenying out.
Chenying dreams of He Simu murdering herself:
and is creeped out when he sees her upon waking up. She tells him to stay home and recover.
The marshal seems to be wavering on the next invasion plan, but they don't have good information. Duan Xu offers to go scouting. He walks down the street blindfolded to see if he can figure out how to replace his sense of touch.
He Simu shows him how she would navigate by seeing wind (she spreads red dust around). Then she tells Duan Xu to return alive while touching his face again and he's all cutely stunned. Chenying asks how he can tell apart doubles, he's told that a double will eventually slip up.

He Simu is called before the marshal, who has the guy from earlier who claims she's an evil spirit. Technically... he's kind of right? But I love this ironic sign:
They bring in a second He Xiaoxiao, who claims her identity was stolen. Powder makes He Simu's eyes glow blue, so they call for her arrest. She seems to know what is going on and doesn't seem very concerned. Meng Wan tries to defend her, but He Simu tells her it's fine. They take her to Ghost Jail (normal jail but with talismans). Meng Wan lets her out.
He Simu meets the guy and the fake He Xiaoxiao on the road, they have Chenxing with them. They tell him to take He Simu's spirit lantern and stab her.
Ep 12: Chenxing figures out the real He Simu and throws the knife at the imposter, who attacks them. Baby boy tries to take the darts but He Simu does instead.
Duan Xu sees crows and suspects something has happened to He Simu, he turns around. He Simu sends Chenxing away with her ghost lantern. The fake He Xiaoxiao is the ghost who was forced to kill his child-eating girlfriend earlier. He Simu says he has until morning to find her vital point and then he's dead, because she'll get her powers back.
Vital point: this is like those fairy tales where the bad guy takes out his heart and you have to find the heart to kill him. Ghosts have a hidden vital point and that's the only way to kill them if you aren't the sovereign (she can just burn ghosts to death)
He Simu seems generally amused by the attacks:

The other ghost summons zombies to attack He Simu. Chenxing is cornered by the ghost catcher mortal, but he's saved by Duan Xu. He Simu is being stabbed like crazy by the zombies. But then she gets her powers back!!!
She starts to heal and fights back. Duan Xu finds her against a tree and is crying because she got hurt. It's so pretty!

Meng Wan helps He Simu wash off all the blood. She's totally chill with the whole, "My general's random girl is a ghost" thing (I love her for that). He Simu asks if Duan Xu betrayed her and he gets angry and swears on his life that he didn't. She talks about how now that she's been seriously hurt, she wishes she had found him before he went through so much pain. But he basically says it was worth it to meet her. She laughs off his confession. These are all my favourite scenes from the novel!!!!!
Chenxing learns that He Simu is a ghost and says he wants to grow strong so he can protect both her and Duan Xu (cute!)
Then Chenxing is like, "Get together so she will stay" which is so, so adorable. Duan Xu says that He Simu doesn't like him, she is just joking and he's not special enough to be loved by her. Chenxing is like, "No, we will ship as hard as we can."
He Simu has decided that experiencing the pain of death was a great learning opportunity and great fun, so she's ready to switch senses again despite the loss of power.
Simu's Ghost Buddy Yan Ke hunts down the ghost who attacked her, Fang Chang, for more information/revenge. Fang Chang taunts him by saying He Simu will never pick him.
Yan Ke asks why He Simu lost her power, but she pulls rank and won't tell him.
Duan Xu drags the "fake" ghost finding guy in front of the marshal, he's very angry about He Simu being framed (well, she is in fact a ghost, but whatever). The marshal seems kind of angry that Duan Xu returned alive from his scouting mission.
It's really hard to write these recaps because I can't type as I stare at the screen with huge heart eyes for 80 minutes. I'm so in love!
Note on all the assassination attempts: All ghosts have obsessions, a lot of ghosts are obsessed with power, so He Simu deals with a ton of assassination attempts as sovereign.
Novel bits: They kept Meng Wan being a chill SFL! So happy
“Just go when I tell you to go!” Meng Wan suppressed the anger in her voice. She suddenly raised her eyes to look at He Simu and said through gritted teeth, “You helped Shunxi, helped us defeat the Huqi people. I don’t care what you are… I’m not someone who repays kindness with enmity.”
