[Text post] Fought another wizard today. (What was that guy's problem???)
A lot of things come out of the water of Lake Rhy, wander into the city, and viciously eviscerate the commoners. We have a high magic aptitude population in Rhyhan, but we’re only about 11% of the entire population. At 200,000 residents, you’d thinks 22,000 spellcasters would be good, but not when so many people here couldn’t clear the WAND exam. I’d say of all the people who can use magic, psychic energy, spirit energy, or connect to the divine, only 5% of them can really put up a fight against monsters, demons, and weird fucked up wizards. I include myself in that number because I just got into a wizard fight.
I fancy my silver staff and silver sword for spellcasting and fighting. My staff has been on the fritz since I cast a spell to give pain a smell, as the spiraling of the metal isn’t conducive to the immaterial I was attempting to manifest. I went to pick it up and one of the mages there just started going off on me. “I bet you think master-level spells even hold a candle to the Arcane Utterances!” he mocked.
“Sir, I’m just trying to pick up my silver staff,” I told him.
“You’re not even 100 yet, and you think you’re a real wizard?!” he shouted, getting in my face. “Your mother is dirtier than a goblin whore, and your father is naught but a cuck to the stableman who sired you!”
The receptionist goes, “Billy, stop, he’s just here to pick up something.”
But Billy (or William I guess) just keeps up the aggression! “A pox on your bloodline! You’re nothing, a nobody! You’re no one, asshole! Fuck you!”
I asked the receptionist, “What’s this guy’s problem?!” and she shrugs.
“You have no comeback? Stupid asshole! I bet you let your apprentice use your orb while you just sit there and watch!”
Nobody uses my orb without my permission. Angry, I said to him, “You’re being an asshole!”
He looked at me like I started the altercation and screamed, “How dare you?! I challenge you to a duel, right now!” He then whipped out his wand before we could even take it outside and, admittedly, his Force Blast knocked me through the desk and bruised my entire backside.
This guy has broken basically every rule of conduct for a wizard duel from the jump: didn’t wait on my answer, didn’t let me get my ceremonial robe on, didn’t take it outside, and didn’t alert neutral observers. I can’t tell you how angry I got when he just quick draw shot me. The receptionist screamed in terror while the antagonistic mage Billy shouted, “Yeah, fuck you! You don’t know real magic! Can’t do anything without your staff!”
So, I drew my sword, imbued it with weightlessness, vorpal might, and 1,000 Celsius heat. He tried to use Force Blast again, but I swung my blade and cleaved his spell in twain. I also slightly flared the heat and set the workshop on fire. This guy throws another Force Blast and that one I just did a quick cast of Mirror Force and reflected it back at him. I sent him through a wall with his own spell and started walking him down.
“You’re nothing!” he shouted, before the bum casts Force Blast AGAIN. With my guard up, I tank the spell, but it pushes me back a bit – it is the same explosive force as a ton of dynamite.
“What’s your problem?!” I screamed, my flaming sword raised.
Then, he pulls out a mother fucking caster gun and fires off a Searing Wind to evaporate me, part of the city, and that dumb receptionist, too. I always have shielding spells and other defenses like Mirror Force at the ready. I’m a ‘better safe than sorry’ style wizard. I only knew it was Searing Wind after looking back on the fight, and would have just blocked it with Master Shield, but in the moment, I panicked and tore a hole in the material dimension, unleashing a maelstrom of chaos and darkness that sucked him and his spell inside. Seeing a caster gun makes me scared (bad history) so I also sent two-hundred flying meteors into the dimensional tear before shutting it. Guys, if you can pull it off, severing the wall between this world and the immaterial beyond is an excellent way to just divert anything being thrown at you.
I asked the receptionist for my staff back. “What was all that just now?! You don’t need a staff!” she shouted.
“Yes, I do,” I answered.
“W… why?!”
“I can only cast at half power without it,” I told her bluntly. She stared at me. “I’ll be speaking to his supervisor, too, because his rudeness was completely uncalled for and unacceptable.”
Afterwards, I picked up my sister and we went to the creamery for iced crem.
