Some of my favorites Part 5
Hi it's me again.
Part 1 here - Part 2 here - Part 3 here - Part 4 here
dust of summer, dust we eat by lipsticktraces - Call Me By Your Name AU. Holy shit, this was so good, by the author of think twice (and come back for a third time) which is also excellent. It’s 1999, Shane is about to get drafted to the NHL and his family goes to their summer home in Italy; (non-hockey, probably) Ilya boards with them. The Italian summer love vibes are immaculate, and this is so gorgeously written and under-appreciated/under-read. Slight age gap, they are 21/24. Spoiler if you care about HEA: >!They do not end up together and it is a very sweet but heartbreaking ending, per the original story. BUT the author has started posting a sequel (1/4) where HEA is promised (but 20+ years later)!< >!😭😭😭😭😭!<
Ilya Enchanted by Daisies_and_Briars - Ilya is out with Troy Barrett when he runs into a drag queen who enchants him so that he can't lie. It's a problem. A decidedly different take on coming out.
solnyshko by angel_deux - Project Hail Mary x Sunshine AU by the author of oh well, I guess we're gonna find out!, the awesome zombie apocalypse AU. In this one, Ilya wakes up on a spaceship and he can't remember anything about who he is, how he got there or what the mission is, but he knows he's interested in the beautifully freckled pilot on his crew who is desperately avoiding him. I lost an entire day of work to this one. Spoilers for PHM and probably Sunshine (I haven't seen it).
Into the Woods by whyyesindeed - Based on the novel Hatchet/AU. Instead of the CCM shoot, Ilya orchestrates a photoshoot with Shane in the North Woods of Canada after the draft, and on the way their plane goes down. They are forced to survive in the wilderness. There is a cool dynamic here, where Ilya (and Shane in turn) is friendly and affectionate from the jump - they get along well, depend on each other and are very good friends, but both are afraid that crossing the line into something romantic would make their situation very difficult. Plot driven and great characterization.
faded on the fine lines by impetuous - Apparently I like it when these two are tattooing each other, because Permanent Reminder by shanehollandertwentyfour is another one of my favorites. In this one, Shane's the artist and Ilya's getting a tramp stamp (he lost a bet). The other is vice-versa. There's fun play with their sub/dom dynamic with the tattooing putting Ilya in subspace and Shane having his own reasons for wanting to be a little dommy.
Not to Abolish, but to Fulfill by Dontevenmind - They meet as high schoolers when Ilya is staying with Shane's family as a transfer student or whatever and... I don't know they're just totally (pretty toxically) codependent and obsessed with each other. Eventually Shane goes to the NHL and Ilya goes to college and they fumble around for years. It's frustrating and excellent.
The Birds and The Bees by Slagathor99 - This one is kind of crazy, but it was really good. Post-tuna meltdown, Shane's trying to bang Rose Landry and takes a fictional sex drug that makes him go absolutely insanely horny, and he calls Ilya for help. Ilya (who is very upset about the tuna thing and below-sea-level-levels of Down Bad™ for Shane and so has lots of feelings of being summoned for this purpose) ditches a game to be there for him, and there's a ton of sex but it's also sweet as hell and they get talky eventually.
