Stop hiding behind the cover of beta.

DISCUSSION

Okay Smite players, I understand that you may love this game, but while i've browsed this forum, i've noticed that every rebuttal to a legitimate issue in Smite(Shitty servers, bad matchmaking, smurfing causing new players to quit, Hirez sweeping problems under the rug rather than fixing them ect) has been "Well, the game is in beta". I personally believe that the time of using this excuse is over. The game has been out for about a year, and it is about to be released in less than 2 months, You cannot constantly use beta as a crutch when defending this game. This thread probably won't last long due to the fact that the mods would also like to brush this obvious fact under the rug, however, knowing that at least one person will stop trying to use a moot rebuttal to an otherwise sound argument will bring joy to my heart. Keep in mind, I love Smite way more than the average person, I am making this thread because i'd like to hound Hirez into fixing the issues that plague this game rather than having the suck-up patrol ruin that chance arguing that a game that is going to be released soon has a free pass to not fix things that any other game would. Despite how often people bash CoD, the game rarely has bad servers, glitches, or issues with its matchmaking in the leaugeplay system. Please, prove me wrong and give a decent argument against my points. I beg of you.

OP, I think you've got a decent point, granted your tone comes off a bit accusatory and negative but you're not missing the mark.

We have a Dev that has a smeared track record. They've created a fantastically fun hybrid MOBA, they've got the key to the kingdom, yet the intelligent should be concerned that they snap the damn thing while unlocking the door.

I like a lot of things that I've seen about how HiRez is handling this game. They have an amazing product that is ALREADY in the green profitability-wise. They know, from a business standpoint, making the game better will equate to even more money.

The game releases very soon. It lacks some polish, has bugs, and might be getting a little too resource intensive.

The players that are championing "beta, beta, beta!" The beta end, very soon. Then shall we say, "Brand new, brand new, brand new?"

How about after a few years of a problem not being fixed? "Being worked, Being worked being work?"

We as a community need to expect a fine product. We line their pockets and they give us a great product. Do not accept mediocrity. And to this we say "Free to Play, Free to Play, Free to Play!" Amiright?

well I have a question for you.... How do you know that Hirez is sweeping the problems under the rug?

They (Hirez) have never posted on any of these posts stating that it is just beta. They have never posted on these post saying that they are not working on any of these problems. They have never gone to these posts saying Guess what deal with it or leave. so again

How do you know that Hirez is just sweeping the problems under the rug? Is it because they have never come out stating that they are fixing the problem.... If they did that then people would be posting on reddit that it is not fixed yet and when will it be? so they are just working and not telling you what it going on.

"How do you know that Hirez is sweeping the problems under the rug?"

All I really need to say to that is look at the removal of clan tags in lobbies.

If you play this game as much as I do you'd know that the ability to see clan tags in lobbies ensures that the party system in Qs for Smite is actually working, that there aren't full clan teams in Smite. This was an ongoing issue in Smite, however, rather than fixing the issue Hirez just took away our ability to see the tags themselves. Hence sweeping the problem under the rug.

I never said that Hirez relied on the beta excuse, instead its the players. Just look at the other 2 comments on this post to prove my point.

Well, i agree with you, however; fixing servers isnt as easy as it sounds. Im sure they have been working on servers for some time now. (at least i hope) In all honesty i would rather the servers get fixed before they add any new gods/remodels. But will see, I can see that smite can reach big hieghts, its just a matter of when they can get there servers fixed, and how well they fix them

You realize the employees that work on the maps/gods etc. can't resolve any matchmaking issues?

It'll be like asking an artist to fix a boiler.

I dont see where i said the concept artist of the character models were responsible for the servers, they can make as many new gods as they want, i just dont want them to REALESE the new gods until the servers are properly fixed. Having unstable servers ontop of a new (as the community likes to call every new god) "OP" god is just a car crash on top of another car crash. Sorry, but i think you assumed something from the context of my last statment, that was not accurate ^-^

This is what I was addressing. Making new gods is fine, because that's someone else's job, and that's what they're paid to do -- all the while there are people being paid to work on the servers and matchmaking.

"You cannot constantly use beta as a crutch when defending this game"

Sure they can, there's no reason why they have to do a retail release, the game is available for free already, and has been for nearly two years (Beta opened May 31st, 2012), the revenue model they're using allows them to consistently refine and improve the game, while also regularly bringing in new Gods.

"Shitty servers, bad matchmaking, smurfing causing new players to quit, Hirez sweeping problems under the rug rather than fixing them ect"

Personally as someone who has leveled from 1-25, and mastered 14 Gods, i have yet to experience a game-breaking issue with the game servers; If and when they need to be taken down, Hi-Rez usually keeps its player base informed as to when and why. I'm not exactly clear on why the matchmaking seems to be making every rage either, in solo queue sure you'll get a smurfer every once in awhile, just like you'll randomly get a player with 30 masteries every once in awhile. If you're playing ranked or league, you're with teammates that you can voice chat with, so it's hardly an issue.

From Google:

Smite will officially launch in Europe and North America on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. In addition, a $100,000 LAN Tournament to celebrate the release will be held the following weekend.

How can you think they're sweeping problems under the rug if they're showcasing their flagship IP with a LAN tourney the following weekend?

TL;DR This game will become a large name in the competitive E-Sport scene, two years beta is necessary to refine a tool that will be used and scrutinized to that degree. The extended beta has allowed the Hi-Rez team to develop a highly polished standard of the E-Sport industry, the concept of using beta as a "crutch" is silly.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm giving my view on the matchmaking system in Smite thus far. Regardless of how its done back-end, the UX has been fine IMO.

  1. Fix the wall of text I don't want to read.
  2. Have you ever created or even been apart of creating a video game?
  3. Literally the goals of creating a video game are "Fail" By that I mean You WANT to fail fast so you get the fail out of the way and start winning. (Servers, Matchmaking, Bugs blah blag) ALL APART OF A BETA Remember when dota 2 was in beta? No probably not you must be from LoL. There were swarms of bugs errors issues etc etc. All got main attention before full release.

IN SUMMARY.

The game is not going to be up to scratch during beta thats a fucking fact. The sooner you figure that out the better. If you don't we don't care this game is going to blow chunks over the moba genre because it is just amazing (That's coming from a diehard 9 year strong dota player + competitive background.

In short. Relax bro, sall good.

I was going to argue the same thing, although having infinitely less experience with Mobas in general, as well as competitive games. So I'll just leave that to you.

Furthermore worth pointing out that Smite has been in BETA for a year and some odd, no? There are some games that stay in BETA for 4+years to milk fans of all the money they can before release. Smite releases in 2 months.

If you think things are drastically going to change with 2 months until release then you have no idea what you're talking about. It isn't just going to magically disappear because the "beta" tag has been lifted. OP is right to be complaining. You little fanboys should be quiet now.

1
SkitZa#1 Baek3n Fanboy•

I never said it would instantly get fixed. My point was which nobody seems to be able to fucking grasp, was that it will take some time just sit back and enjoy the game.

Jesus people have incredibly thick skulls.

I will assume any kind of arguing with you is pointless and just say "Wait to the full release and you will realize the difference".

Betas are never complete. Never rid of bugs. And never ready to release. After a while they have to release however and at that time there is generally a HUGE change that makes gameplay better. My theory is that they're secretly working on new systems to support the game and they'll be done by release. At release they will switch servers to better ones and have different everything that people bitch about. As it sits now it's a beta version of everything just so the game holds up till then.

Tag_Forceit is my opinion so deal. •

should they test these procedures before releasing them? isn't that what beta is for? I think it is a stupid idea to be using one server and then at release just switch to a whole new server and hope and prays it stays working. They need to test the servers to make sure they will work and test the load the servers will have to handle, That is the point of Beta.

0
FoxinthevoidUSA USA USA USA•

They are testing them. The new servers are being intermittently active along with the regular servers for their load tests. That's why there is no USA west option yet because those server are being tested. You've probably noticed that some games have higher lag than others, that's the result of periodically being put on test servers for east or eu. Just a theory but it's very probable. The official change will be at release but testing is going on now to see what they can do to make em better. And they won't officially tell people that they're doing it because if word gets out there will be a hella lot more complaints when they shut them off periodically but leave the other ones up and blah blah blah yadabyadayada. Get my point?

2
Tag_Forceit is my opinion so deal. •

well my ping hasn't changed in 4 months. people are saying things about west coast servers but I have yet to see it. I live in the Mountain reagon (same time zone as PonPon) and my ping has stayed between 120 and 140 ever time I play.

I get the point if they release it there will be more bitching but they need to do testing during prime time. (which is when I play because of work) which is when they should test them but like I haven't seen any better ping.

0
LeafyAoifeTis i - never fear, arachne is here!•

Sure, let's have 17 people test it in their office to see if the game works.

Of course it'll work! Beta IS the testing procedure!

1
Tag_Forceit is my opinion so deal. •

that's what I said.... to test the servers during all different times (mainly prime time) to get the most load on the servers to make sure they can handle it. what is wrong with that?

haha! replied to the wrong person :P do pardon.
