/r/bitcoin is completely overridden by votebots
Here is my reasoning. I've been watching submissions that make it to the front page. I've been noticing that stuff makes it there that has like one comment in an hour, but we have dozens of threads every hour that get dozens of comments on them but never make it to the front page.
Just look at any post that even mentions mt. gox. Tons of discussion, tons of upvoting of the comments, but these threads almost never make it to the front page. But we have other articles and self shit posts that make it there with a comment or two.
This is nuts.
Who is trying to control the discussion here?

all of reddit is riddled with shils, evil mods and voting bots
obviously NSA/GCHQ aren't the only ones trying to form opinions.
reddit is the TV of the internet.
Not for much longer. Reddit and Twitter will eventually be replaced by blockchain based systems.
How do you make a blockchain-based Reddit/Twitter/whatever? You can't just wave a magic wand and say "decentralization!".
And how does that even fix the problem of votebots?

The problem is (partially) fixed by proof of work. It costs calculation power which is small enough to notice for a single person, but becomes a big issue for a server which is trying to spam these platform with hundreds or thousands of bots. It can quickly become unprofitable.
Interesting. I don't know if any system where it's impossible to recover a lost key is going to take off and reach the same popularity as, say, twitter; plus I really don't know if their proposed 'track every word' search solution would scale to Twitter-level volume. I also think being able to delete content is a severely underrated feature.
Because every vote costs a coin. By making votes have a tangible cost this means automated processes like votebots become too costly to operate for all but the richest in the world.

OK, how much does it cost? Let's say it costs a penny to vote. Then if you have a thousand dollars of advertising budget you can buy a hundred thousand votes. Even if it costs a whole dollar to vote, you could easily force something onto the top of a default with only a couple thousand dollars, and that's not even taking into account the fact that people would vote way less.
So only the 47 people whole hold the largest amount of bitcoins can afford to vote? Democracy at work!
Similarly, you can't just wave a magic wand and say criticisms. There are ways to decentralize these services and create incentive structures to maintain them. Calm your horses.
There are ways but I've never seen anybody show any that actually seem workable at scale and that can offer features like search.
This is beyond a stupid way to build such sites on the server side. I can't even...and you all upvoted this haha.
Bitcoin is a stupid way to build a currency. But it's still better.
If you hand wave any harder you're going to hurt your wrists
So we would mime reddit for karmacoins?

I can assure you that this is happening in Bitcointalk.org too! One of my threads got moved to an obscure forum which was like a junkyard of moved posts...
