Tourist Stuntman with a free weekend!

Hey redditors! In town from LA (the west coast one) and currently don't have plans (stunt team has the weekend off). Going to go hit up the Oyster Festival (close to my hotel, so why not). If anyone has any other ideas, let me know!

If you're a history buff the WW2 museum is amazing, and GREAT way to spend a rainy day.

Let me know if you're interested. I can meet you there and get one person in free with my membership. Its around $35 for everyone else and this includes the Tom Hanks documentary. (which is pretty damn good)

After hitting up the museum American Sector has a happy hour from 3-6 which involves 2.50 pints of good beer.

If you're going to go though I'd suggest not having anything else planned for the rest of the day, as you'll end up spending all your time until they're kicking you out the door for closing trying to see everything you can!

SideyrOP•

Haha, wait. The Oyster Festival just got awesome, might hang out here.

New Orleans tends to do that

You should jump over the Robert E. Lee statue in Lee Circle on a motorcycle.

4
SideyrOP•

Eh, already did that...

2
collinch•

Damn. How about jump out of a burning seaplane (and even though it's burning and you jumped out, also successfully land it in the Mississippi since it's a sea plane) and parachute onto the top of Harrah's?

1
SideyrOP•

Now you're asking too much. Go to Harrah's? Come on.

I think your best bet today is to duck into bars in the quarter and day drink.

it's drinking weather!

2

Its always drinking weather. It just changes whether you are inside or out.

4
SideyrOP•

I like how you think!

What's the demand like for stunt women in the New Orleans film industry?

If I were you I'd be offering to buy this guy a beer.

I'm about to go to work, but I'm considering it.

What ya got to lose darlin? Just do it.

2
SideyrOP•

First time here so not sure. Probably better than LA right now.

2
SideyrOP•

I know a girl who moved out here for stunt work actually, might be able to put you in touch with her. She might be able to answer this better.

2
Milk_of_Magnesium•

Yes, please. I'd love to have a chat over a drink with her.

1
SideyrOP•

What, no drink for me? ;) I'll message you her info.

I'm a film student at UNO and my professor's wife does stunt work down here. She worked on Green Lantern, Planet of the Apes, Terminator, etc so I know the work is there. She came in to talk to the class and said it is very much "who you know" and picking up future jobs on sets you're already working on.

Nola motorsports across the river has awesome karts that go about 40-45 and the track is really cool. I'm not sure if they're open because of weather but check it out

1
SideyrOP•

Thank you! I'll see if I can get out that way.

Are you working on Terminator or Jurassic Park?

Yeah, we're generally keyed into who's in town filming what around here.

2

The film industry is like the... number 3 industry in town.. maybe number 2. Everyone knows someone who is working on something.

And most films don't care if you know they are filming.. they just want ZERO pictures leaked from the set.

Some of them don't even try to keep a secret! Terminator 5 may have registered with the city under the working title Vista, but they list an email of t5prodnola at gmail, and used "T5" for their direction signs.

So, "Ebb Tide", then? :)

Why dont you look into a little local culture while you're here?

You can walk there from the Quarter. A lot of guys come down here from LA and never learn anything about the city other than it's party.

It is good to know that even the residents of L.A. forget the punctuation on a regular basis...

Sorry, pet peeve about Californians. Hope you enjoy the city!

1
SideyrOP•

Forget, no. Just don't use it :)

Are you the one whose license plate reads STUNTMAN? I was working on a movie on Frenchman on Friday and saw it parked nearby.

1
SideyrOP•

No, I flew in. That is pretty funny though.

What do you want to do this weekend? I am always up for shenanigans.

1
SideyrOP•

Well, I fly out Saturday morning, but my Friday night should be wide open.

1

Damn. I am working tomorrow night...
