Excellent article!
Thanks! I had fun writing it, and the whiskey sour didn't hurt. I haven't had that many browser tabs open in ages :)
Just hit stereoscopic mode and yes this sums it all up! Stuck at 209.4% and waiting for a programmer to tell us it's not just an arbitrary number...
I liked the article, except there is now ample empirical evidence to say that the Monolith solution is intentionally unsolvable, but the article seems unaware of that.
But I can relate to the article's general thrust that it can be sad/frustrating that we might never know the solution to the few remaining mysteries that seem to be intended as puzzles. This unending search can also be seen as a positive aspect, however: without mystery, the "magic" of a thing is lost :)
I wasn't aware of this either, actually. Do you have a link to what you're referring to? Or if not, would you mind explaining?
You're right! I am unaware of that. What's the evidence? I haven't seen anything really substantial.
There was a section in one of the documents that got leaked when Polytron was hacked that mentioned late game puzzles would not be solvable by any means within the game, and that Polytron would possibly be the ones to reveal the codes. It's vague and I wish I could find the document, but it pretty clearly alludes to the monolith and heart cube being "unsolvable". There's a thread on this subreddit regarding it. I'll keep looking for it...
EDIT: Of course I find it as soon as I post a reply. Here it is: http://www.reddit.com/r/Fez/comments/2rpk0t/hidden_content_and_cheats_by_polytron/
http://www.mediafire.com/view/r140mphg3v1dxxz/Hidden_Content_&_Cheats.docx
From the document:
"But the second part of the map is missing. There’s nothing in the game that will hintto it. The code itself (for testing purposes) is : "Down" "Down" "SpinLeft" "SpinRight""SpinRight" "Jump" "Up"This transforms the monolith into the 3rd piece of heart. We expect that the code will either be brute forced, hacked or leaked by someone, might be us."
Thanks. I've always been suspicious of that document. Do most folks think it's genuine? I'll give it another read, it's been a long time since I looked at it.
Sigh, this document again... I personally wouldn't link to it, but I'm not a mod here or anything, so it's not like I can tell you what to do. On the subject of its legitimacy:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Fez/comments/2wobtq/the_reasoning_behind_the_monolith_puzzle_solution/cot9qo9
tl;dr: It's very likely genuine, but as it's from an earlier version of the game, it's possible that a solution was added in sometime after it was last edited.
