John C Wright's wife verbally abused by Patrick Nielson Hayden at Hugos; Quits TOR

I feared something like this would happen when I read his previous allusions to attending the con. Still, the pre-history of this controversy that Wright lays out here (ascribing both the turn in Hugos and Vox Day's assumption of the Supreme Dark Lord mantle to Hayden's machinations) is unexpected and interesting.
Since, given the Gallo business, I don't expect any satisfactory outcome to this feud, I regard it as a very poor result for science fiction. Castalia has been publishing more of Wright's fantasy, which is a step below his science fiction. Perhaps that will change, but having rights issues get in the way of the last Count to a Trillion books is an awful result.

Awful for Tor maybe.
Awful for readers who want the books. He's contracted with Tor for the series, and won't be able to take them elsewhere without a release.
Ah I see. I didn't see the problem at first.
Until he mends ties with Tor or they release him from the contract he can't sell his book.
I wonder how much more bad publicity PNH is going to bring his company before TOR and Holtzbrinck Publishers gets tried of him?
The better question? How many years of missed revenue can TOR withstand before they go under? The Hugo's represent an income bump and that's why TOR is gaming them. Every year that their authors are kept out of the winners spot, they will lose revenue in a field that is increasingly getting difficult to survive in. Barnes and Noble is going under - slowly - and once they are gone the legacy publishers will be in an almost impossible place.
They survive on ebooks right now, which Amazon is increasingly tightening the noose on by promoting independent published authors in favor of old favorites.
Vote "No Award" until the legacy publishers go down and take power brokers like PNH with them.
It's all the legacy publishers. Time for them to die.
TOR first.
I think that when, regardless of your positions, you go around calling people "Christ haters", you can't really expect a civil discourse in return. Just my two cents.
The Progressive Left has been calling Wright a misogynist (i.e. "Woman hater") and other similar names for years. I don't think he ever expected civil discourse.
"I am, in all modesty, a skilled author, one of the finest writing today."
He is, in all seriousness, a terrible writer whose recent work in particular hasn't even been worth the phosphor it takes to illuminate it. What a fucking narcissist.
Maybe he just lacks good reference points. ;) When you look at various Hugo Award material and nominees such as The Water That Falls On True Gay Love and If You Were A Revenge Fantasy, My Love and Ancillary Pronoun and The Day The World Turned Upside Down, But Inconsistently So, it's fairly obvious to me that Wright kicks the ass of the lot of them.
The only one of those unworthy of nomination was "Dinosaur". What a ridiculous piece of waste that was.
So, it's fairly obvious to me that Wright kicks the ass of the lot of them.
Sure an I'm the worlds strongest man as long as I only test my skill against toddlers..... You aren't exactly setting your standard very high by comparing Johns bad work with the other bad work on show.
What do you think about him quitting Tor because PNH cussed out his wife?
I like to hear more than one side of a story.
Edit: I've now heard another side of the story, and it doesn't fit Wright's characterization of what happened. And the source is Wright's wife: "According to JCWs wife she went to PNH with some message from JCW, at which point PNH told her "he can shove it up his ass" and "stomped off". Which offended her mightily, but is somewhat different from JCWs account."
Sounds like more or less the same story to me. JCW may have exaggerated it but if push came to shove you wouldn't call it perjury.
I think he's attempting to secure a hugo next year, in the field of alternate history, because this sure sounds like a work of science fiction to me.
I'm sorry, I didn't know you were there. What did you see happen?
Nothing & neither did you: But the fact that the story is so ill formed, lacking in any kind of character motivation or context, puts it right on par with the rest of Johns writings.
And here we see the SJW in its natural state, busy with its eternal occupations of lying and projecting.
Except that the person in question isn't an SJW, they are simply pointing out that Johns work is at best mediocre, which would be an accurate summation of his output both fiction & essay formats.
He is, and it isn't.
No, I'm a neutral, thanks. I actually read -- or attempted to read -- his noms. I didn't vote, but I'm satisfied that the votes were largely correct.
Man you are courting the down vote tonight aren't you.... Not that you are wrong: To call the man a mediocre writer would be an insult to ACTUAL mediocre writers.
No he's down right bad at writing. It also doesn't help that his faith actually gets in the way of his ability to write from multiple stand points, not to mention his non fiction work which is just laughably bad.
So I suppose the question is, which one of us will get the most down votes now.
Shrug. I have karma to spare. Unlike the bulk of the SJWs, I actually read everything on the noms list this year. Or tried to -- many of the Puppy noms were not worth finishing, including all of Wright's.
Then I went back and tried to read the works that he has been 'acclaimed' for in the past. Execrable.

Damn John, you are like 60 different flavors of bug shit insane. You need to remove the crucifix from up your butt & just chill the fuck out a little. More to the point you need to keep your dogma on a leach, because it's making you look like the biggest series of clichéd right wing intolerant bible thumping stereotypes possible.
I mean it's bad enough we have Vox Day acting like a complete fuckwit, please don't add any more stupid to it.
I assure you, the man can chill with the best of them. You must not have seen his Gratuitous Catwoman Cheesecake Day posts. Every few months on his blog there will be a post or two with the flimsiest of excuses to imagedump Catwoman looking sexy. Rawr. Between that and the highly educated classical references scattered all over, I'm pretty sure Wright is far from a bible thumping stereotype.
Please don't use "stupid" for disagreement.
This post of his disagrees with your summation, because ranting about god & how people who don't share your religious political views are ‘Christ Haters’ or 'hate[s] humanity' is class A1 bible thumping bug nuts.
I mean can you with all honest state that the following statement is anything but bible thumping clichéd gibberish?
Because I can't. It's this kind of intolerance that makes the rest of us look bad by association. No amount of Catwoman cheesecake is going to make it look less like he needs to chill the fuck out with this Christian moralizing, before someone points out that Christianity is not the font of propriety & morality he seems to think it is.
Oh I'm not, I'm using stupid to define a thing that is actively stupid & they don't get much stupider than Vox, but this outburst from John is certainly making a showing for itself.
Good thing he didn't do that, then. Maybe you should try reading what he actually wrote. Because it's far from "People who don't share my religious political views hate humanity" to Wright's statement of "anyone who hates Christ, sooner or later, comes to hate humanity."
Yes. I will grant you that it's perhaps cliched, but sometimes cliches are around for a reason, such as long experience. It is certainly not gibberish; I can understand it just fine. Maybe you're ignorant and should read up a bit if you don't understand it. Furthermore, I believe that a basic requirement for Bible thumping involves the Bible being quoted, which happens nowhere in the post, or used as the basis for a demand, which isn't happening either. You seem to be throwing around "bible thumper" as a generic insult for anything more Christian than saying "Thank God".
So you want him to have no Christian moralizing on his own blog? A moment ago you were complaining about intolerance.
This just confirms that you're using "stupid" for disagreement, because most of the world is stupider than Vox.
LOL yeah he did, hence my use of the quote.
Oh I can understand it, it's still gibberish.
It doesn't.
Not when it is not appropriate. This would have been the equivalent of someone coming up & declaring:
"I am not saying Christianity makes one come hate science fiction. I am saying Christianity makes one come to hate anything and everything that is filled with fun, and wonder, and pleasure, and delight. The Enemy hates us because we bear the knowledge that there is no god, and so anyone who hates Atheists, sooner or later, comes to hate humanity."
See how dumb that would be if one were to make that argument.... It doesn't become any less a stupid argument when you replace atheism with theism.
There is a suitable time & place for such things & it wasn't in talking about a science fiction award.
LOL no.
But if Christians disagree with homosexuality, they are labeled bigots, intolerant and full of hatred... You mean you don't like it when the same standard is applied to you?

Heh, and I thought you were some flavor of RealLit snob, but no, you're just another edgy anti-theist.
You really need to pull the salty crucifix-hate out of your butt.
