Awakening

He hides himself behind the veil of a smile, in camoflauge.
They can't see the tempestuous brooding,
which flogs him without relent.

He hides himself from the anguish under the cover of darkness.
No one sees as he sobs alone in torturous solitude,
for his loss of everything.

He hides himself from the world in quiet desperation.
All has been lost including himself,
he awaits for nothing at all.

He shows himself, half steps at a time and in time,
he begins to open his eyes and tries,
to live again.

He shows himself for the first time in forever,
and finds no solace for he is still alone.
But he stays the course.

He shows himself for he has seen her, who is she?
Tossing caution to the wind he pursues,
and forgets his troubled heart.

He offers himself and prays that she accepts him.
She finds him and she sees him but,
will she know him.

He offers himself and he shows himself, who he really is,
all the scars and the wounds.
He no longer hides.

He offers himself completely so she will know who he is,
and he hopes and he prays,
that she accepts him.

She shows herself and he rejoices for she teaches him,
that his life is not over at all, and,
there is still a chance.

She shows herself and writes to him with such lovely prose.
It confuses him for he has trouble believing.
What a beautiful creature!

She shows herself to him in ways he cannot comprehend,
but slowly with time his eyes are opened.
She is as he and he as she.

They show themselves both tortured by past experience,
and they revel in their mutual devastation,
for they have found one another.

They show themselves to one another without fear of rebuke,
for they know and they empathize with,
what lurks in the others' heart.

They show themselves and understand one another,
for they are two beings as one along the same path,
to healing their maimed souls.

They show themselves and in one another they triumph,
for they have found love amidst the ruins.
A single flower blooms.

And it is beautiful.
