donating used convention washer/dryer (still work)

I'm trying to donate (without luck) my used conventional (non-HE) washer/dryer to charities in Ottawa without luck.

Habitat wants $25 per appliance (which is fine) but I have to load them myself (I don't own a dolly) ... I told them to pound sand.

Is there any reasonable charity out there that will take them off my hands for a reasonable fee without me actually loading them myself?

Freecycle will easily see those off to somebody in need and they'll find a way to pick them up.

(I offered up a working set once and was flooded with offers. A couple of guys managed to tie them onto a compact car somehow, and later I got a message from the single mom who got them praising me to the skies, as her kid had conveniently spent the first night with the washer and dryer throwing up all over his bed. Good stuff.)

Yup. Freecycle. If you use Facebook, here's their group:

If you post to Kijiji I'm sure someone in need would be willing to pay the $75 or so mover's fee to get your appliances.

Ya that's our next stop. We were hoping a charity could take them for someone in need. Just because someone buys them for cheap doesn't mean they "need" them for cheap (there are things in there worth recycling).

I told Habitat that at the point I go out and buy a dolly and move it myself I'll just throw them on the curb with "Free" on it. Problem will solve itself.

doesn't mean they "need" them

No, and that's where you listen to their story and decide who you'd like to help. When I was looking for a washer some years ago I recall reading a want ad posted by a single mom who said her old machine broke down and she was unable to afford a new one.

Hi there, I have been looking for a dryer for sometime now, I would be interested in taking it off of your hands

Maybe one of the organizations that helps immigrants and refugees? Perhaps OCISO would have info.
