Finally picked up a GeekVape Avocado

I've finally found something I like better than my origenny. Velocity deck is a no-brainer, but I've not even bothered with dual coils because the single coil setup is so satisfying. There were some initial wicking problems using Koh Gen Do, but a cotton bacon + spaced coil setup kicked them squarely in the shins (thanks, u/Motherhead).

Airflow options on this tank are brilliant at each end of the spectrum - I've never had a tank that transitions so well from restricted to full lung hit. It won't go all the way down to a k.loud sort of 3-atoms-wide-airhole hit, but anything above that is achievable and well executed.

The default drip tip is a solid meh. it does, however, come with a nice chuff cap. I haven't gotten any spitback through it, and even enjoy it with non-chuff levels of airflow. The only real downside is getting a bit of condensation dribbling in your mouth if you're performing the genesis tip at very low juice levels to keep the wicks wet while taking a hit at the same time. Doing that is mildly stupid, so I'm going to let it slide.

Overall, it's great! GeekVape has melded (or ripped off, depending on your point of view) most of the things I like about the Marquis and the Velocity and slapped a glass tank on it so I can chain vape the fucker without dripping.

I've been eyeballing these lately even though I know it's been out for a while now. Mostly due to the fact that I recently picked up an 1100 mah lipo DNA200 that I'm looking to have something more toned down style of vape to try and help make the battery life last longer. I figured with this I could build a single coil and have a higher ohm build to help with this and by how you're describing it it sounds like it might fit the bill. It's mostly a house mod anyways so it's not a huge deal but when I do take it out I'd like to have this option to help so you may have just sold me even more on it. Thanks for the review.

Toned down from what? :) Even the single coil build I have is fogging up the place. Not that you can't just run it cooler, of course. It certainly has the airflow options for that.

Yeah that's what I mean. That and the fact that I can run a single coil in it will help bring up the ohms and down the wattage and I can close it down if it's not warm enough for me. I've been mostly using VCMT's lately so they require big builds and low ohms with high wattage to run well so that's not really helping with the battery life lol. I figure single coil maybe clapton or something and it will run nice. I'm also looking for something not MTL and still putting out some decent vapor so again it sounds like this fits the bill.

TC helps a lot with battery life. Get some titanium and go wild. I'd recommend single coil about 0.3 ohms at 400F and 30w to get great battery life.

Hmm I had the opposite effect with SS TC. It seemed to eat through my battery life way quicker.

MedicatedDeveloperMadTown Vapor ([email protected]) | DNA200 >> 30mm Alpha BFT•

SS TC sucks due to the low TCR and will negatively impact your battery life due to the regulation not being efficient when the power is constantly jumping up/down. Watch your device via device manager in escribe and you'll see what I'm talking about. The wattage goes crazy once it hits temp due to the low TCR. 316 is the worst, 304 a bit better, and 430 the best SS to do TC with. A good Ti or Ni build will not do this due to its much higher TCR.

I think this is why SS TC is much more popular. It's a lot harsher of a hit due to the wide fluctuations in power. Every device with SS TC I've tried does this. Ti is way smoother and lets you dial in the taste oh so much better than SS.

Well I guess that would explain the battery life issue with SS TC. I haven't tried Ti yet at all and I won't even try Ni again. I hated Ni and won't even bother trying it again at this point because I have no need to try it. SS gave me a satisfying vape with TC though so I was using that here and there for a TC vape but not that often. Guess I'll just stick with the SS and kanthal for now because I still have a few SS coils for my Herakles+ and maybe just run SS in regular wattage mode. Thanks for the tip.

Agreed. TC destroys my battery life.

Ok so I'm not crazy here lol.

shinsuke_nakamuraVCMT/Custom DNA 200 (2800mAh MaxAmps Lipo)•

What device? Certain devices will kill battery life in TC because they switch to PWM in TC when DC-DC is more efficient and is almost unilaterally used now in power mode. TC on my DNA 200 improves battery life for me with a 2800mAh MaxAmps lipo.

Umm, TC kills battery way faster.

I just picked one up on Monday, loving it so far. A little annoying to refill, but I'll get used to it. Also, love the frosted glass it comes with. Only con, I cant find replacement glass barrels for it yet.

2
EntropyOP•

Are you running dual coil? It's extremely annoying to refill in that case since it lacks a dedicated fill port so you have to go in through the wick holes. With a single coil its just lift the top off, lift the ceramic bit off, fill. I can even fill it with giant plastic tips, which is a nice change from the goblin mini.

Kasanova1226•

I love my dual coil builds, that I never thought about building a single coil. I will do that today when I get home. Thanks :)

2
EntropyOP•

You're welcome! I'll build a dual coil setup next time as well.

I feel like dual coils weren't given the same amount of love as the single coil, what with the ceramic insert both providing chamber reduction and airflow from the back. I'd really like to see a fill port in a v2.

edit: Current single coil build is 8 wrap spaced 24ga kanthal w/ cotton bacon

mycarsifarstReuleaux DNA200 | Origen V3 | Goblin Mini V2•

I ended up getting rid of mine. The several builds I had installed were just meh with regards to flavor. Didn't matter about coil placement or airflow, something was just off with this one for me.

Glad you like it though.

2
EntropyOP•

Sorry it didn't work out for you. I had a couple builds that sucked before I nailed it - didn't think I liked it at first.

Origenny is still better for flavor, I think, but the ergos are so much nicer on this tank and I think it wicks easier with horizontal coil setup.

2
pacertown•

Had mine for a week or so. Wish it had an option for real MTL airflow. The smallest is still a restrictive lung hit. And you're right that the default drip tip sucks.

Still, can't beat it for the money. So easy to build, I was vaping less than 5 minutes after I opened the package. It's a great vape. First build was single coil at 1ohm and it kicked butt. Second was dual at .4 or so and it rocks. Great tank.

2
EntropyOP•

You did it with just the single back hole uncovered, right? I thought it only did the small hole on each side at first.

Actually, I just tried that and you're right, it is still a restrictive lung hit. It's right at the edge, I'd say.

1
pacertown•

I doubt it would work with much less airflow anyhow. The wick holes are just too big. It's still really good for what it is, and especially at that price.

How is it for traveling? Any leakage?

1
EntropyOP•

None so far, but I have not tried any stunts with it. Generally you can hold a cotton genny upside-down without issue, at least for a short period of time. I would not want to stow it like that, though.

I'll definitely put that on my list. Currently torn between this and the new billow v3

Nice, dude. I just got my ohmega nano in last week and loving that and my vapor dna silverplay nano. Also just ordered the new Vaporesso Gemini tanks. (both RTA and the pre made coil tank) I'm stoked dude.

Geekvape has been absolutely killing it lately!

The Avocado is the best RTA on the market right now. Better than the Griffin and all the other Griffin look-a-likes. It's much better with dual coils even though that causes some headache with filling. You also have to know how to wick it correctly. The videos showing the wick all the way to the bottom is not the right way IMO. Just barely put the cotton into each hole, enough so that it doesn't leak but not too much that it can't breathe. Just flip it upside out for 2 seconds after every couple hits.

If you do it right, the flavor and overall vape experience is better than most RDA's on the market (dual coils) and certainly better than every RTA

I've been hesitant to pick one of these up because I grabbed a SOV Zenith based on how much I love my Origenny. And as it turns out, I did not love the Zenith. It was just an all around PITA, from building to wicking to filling it. The fact that you endorse the Avocado over the Origenny makes me reconsider it.

I'm not a genny guy but i'll admit this one had me rethinking my position a bit. In the end I probably wont get one but its nice to see ppl really diggin it. I really wanna try the GeekVape Tsunami more than anything. I probably wont buy any new vape shit bc im gonna get the Aromamizer V2 Supreme when it drops and I wanna save my money for that. I really really wanna vape on that!

I picked one up a few days ago. Out of the 8 or 9 Sub-Ohm tanks I've used, it's my favorite.
