That Inky Black
That inky black
So deep and dark
Above a world born so stark
From which a race there would hark
To the call of that inky black
On the plains of grass so green
Came a people born
A twinkle of stars in their eyes was seen
What first they heard its call to mean
To answer this they were sworn
Upon a journey they were borne
One dark night
There would alight
A flame with brilliant glow
Would give them sight
So they could take flight
Around the flames a story told
A tribal group heard
By shaman old
Her words had stirred
A race that would unfold
By brilliant day and dawn blue
Beneath a sun brilliant and warm
To stir a breeze that blew
To cool a moving form
A form that journeyed from their home
Upon their legs they left
The plains on which they roam
To leave that land bereft
From arctic to forest
To mountain tall and island low
Or upon desert plateau
Could be found a people aglow
A world old they would settle
A day would come to test their mettle
When crowded it became
Once more they fanned the flame
Across ocean by day so blue
By night beneath that inky black
Guided by many a star so true
A world left behind, to not go back
Nay they ventured all the same
To a world so new they came
Thrice again they were not few
Native Nordic and ‘Ninety two
When found their knowledge grew
And their prosperity too
Many a nation fought
But from these wars they were taught
And the flame kindled again anew
Again that inky black would call
For a race that would stand tall
Though they may be small
Would not hesitate to leave at all
To brilliant moon they went
Whose light had shone
On each dark night long ago
Had given a glow
That in a people was sown
Upon a flame they begun their ascent
Around a golden sphere
Many a world would steer
Through the black they would fly
Though without wings they would cruise by
Each one became a home in time
To a people in their prime
Though still the call was heard
And onwards they were spurred
To the stars beyond they went
Whose light shone like crystal gems
To this calling they were content
So they left with the best intent
A world behind to not go back
They were called ever onwards toward
That inky black
