Love Algorithm
Falling for you just isn’t as fun
When it’s done online.
What is this dance we do anyways?
Two screens blocking you and me
From our insecurities?
I despise the notion
That we ought not
Vocalize these wonderful thoughts!
Letting a chat log
Archive the dialogues
Of courtship?
Is affectionate emotion
Now warrant for a guilt trip?
What can I say of this era that I live and love in?
I say we weren’t built to handle it.
It’s supposed to be work!
The labors of love have been outsourced.
“Made in China” is that new romantic spark.
The first night together, “Made in Malaysia,”
And the painful parts:
Grief, heartbreak, jealousy,
Are boldly branded “Designed in America,”
In red, white, and blue letters,
With “Assembled in Mexico” in fine print down below.
What will any of this even matter
Ten years down the line?
Feelings rise and fall
Like civilizations.
Inflation, deflation,
Our termination, our damnation,
Well what’s our compensation?
Speculation, flirtation, liberation.
It’s all or nothing in this nation.
Do you want to get dinner or something?
