Base Kane Review
Hey boys hope the all-star Scott is treating you guys well, back here again with another review, last time majority of you guys wanted to see Kaner, so here it is, Base Kane, coming in hot.
Line: Seguin-Toews-Kane
Skating 9.5/10 Kane's skating is very good, while his top speed is nothing ridiculous, I find that he is able to gain separation from defenders and create chances using his acceleration and agility. In addition to this, he's a little bulkier than in years past, while he used to be somewhat of a glass cannon, I find that he can take some contact without losing the puck, he will still be destroyed by a bigger player if he lines you up right, but his ability to shrug off small bumps allows him to work well in the zone more so than prior years.
Shooting 9/10 Kane has a filthy wristshot, it fires off fairly hard while also possessing pinpoint accuracy. If given space in the slot or coming off the half wall, he can pick his corners and the puck will more than likely be in the back of the net. His slapshot is underwhelming, while accurate, it lacks the power behind it to make it a viable shot choice over his wrister, you're better off passing it or trying to make a move to create a better scoring chance. Despite this I find that he can get some good power on one-timers, he's pretty accurate and is money from between the dot and the hashmark.
Hands 10/10 Where do I start? best hands out of all the cards I've used in the game so far, he's really smooth and all moves with him come out fast, I show no restraint with the dekes when Kane has the puck. He creates a lot of separation for himself by being able to throw moves out there and force the defenseman to bite, opening up lanes out there to make a play. He doesn't lose possession often, he must be stick checked perfectly or have a good check placed on him for that, but that's if the opponent lines him up. His passing is also superb, I find that he can thread the puck through multiple bodies, tape to tape, with ease, and set up scoring chances that way as well.
Checking 7/10 Kane can't hit, I've managed to make some fluky big hits with him but i think thats mostly because of the speed leading into the contact. The only reason that this rating isn't any lower is because I feel that he can actually take some contact this year in contrast to previous games.
Defense 8/10 Kane has an underrated defensive game. By no means would I put him on the penalty kill, there are much better options, but his defensive awareness is pretty decent at an 87 and his stick checking is actually at 90, he's better than most scoring wingers at defense which is unexpected, yet appreciated.
Overall... I like to describe Kane this year as slippery, I noticed this when I played against him early in the year, he seems to always be able to squeak through the defense even when someone is on top of him. He is truly a triple threat on offense, give him too much space, he can snipe, cover him too close, he can hit another guy with a pass, and don't forget that he can make you look plain silly out there with some nifty stick handling. I'd say that he is among if not the best base option at RW, he can inject offense into a line instantly and take over games when needed to, I'd recommend picking him up if you're looking for a speedy PLY/SNP hybrid to stick on the RW.
Comment which of these guys you'd like to see next, I'd love to be able to make a concrete decision based on your input.
