I have $60 dollars to spend. Recommend any steam games?

I'm getting a $100 dollar steam gift card, then I'm going to buy Skyrim + add-ons. I like RPGs and practically every game genre, except horror. I now have $60 to spend (1 day after the steam summer sale ended), so recommend some games that you think I should play!

Edit: I forgot that horror scares me too much for me to sleep...

Rocket League, I do not know a single person who does not enjoy this game.

Not to diss the game, but I get bored with it in a very short period. Not sure why.

The game has the initial learning curve where you can barely hit the ball but once you get the hang of it after a little playtime, it is incredibly fun and for $20 it is very easy to get your value of it.

It's a game that gets more fun the better you get at it.

It more of a "ill play a few rounds then go and do something else" instead of a sit down and play for hours each day.

I usually don't play sports games, and even I enjoyed Rocket League.

seems like your like me with the "I like RPGs and practically every game genre" so I'll recommend some games that are in my library that i really liked.

Bastion. Really, this is a must play. A very well written adventure set in a gritty westernish evnironment (Ben Yahtzee even gave it a positive review.) And i would kill just to be in the same room as the narrator listening to him talk.

(Not gonna take the chance and going to suggest these in case you haven't played them since you didn't link anything saying what you have played)

the Bioshock serise (they are even worth picking up again since they are getting an HD remaster in September that you can upgrade to for free.) Without a doubt my favorite game series of all time. Almost everything about 1 and infinite are damn near perfect (2 has flaws but it gets way more hate than it deserves.)

Child Of Light- It is like playing a fairy tale that has an extremely good soundtrack.

The Borderlands serise are great RPG's 1 is good 2 is amazing and pre-sequel is meh but worth a play.

(haven't played it but i hear great things)

Cave Story

The Silent Age- Its an interesting story, doesn't really bring anything new to the table but the story is solid and engaging.

SOMA- Can't really describe this without spoiling anything. just know it is very well written and will have you questioning what it means to be human.

And with every suggestion like this it is going to be mentioned, so I'll just get it out of the way.

Undertale- Once again going into it with zero knowledge is best, but you have probably heard stuff already since it's so popular.

Edit: well count SOMA out since you don't like horror. Bioshock 1 is iffy, you'll be fine with 2 and Infinite.

I can second Bastion, Borderlands, Cave Story and Undertale.

Relating to the edit about Bioshock, specifically the original game, I'd really recommend checking out a bit of Let's Play. I don't really like horror games very much myself, but I think Bioshock is different from most other horror games.

While it does have a very creepy setting and atmosphere, it doesn't render the player character alone and powerless. You have firepower, you have "magic" type offensive options and you have guidance from characters with radio contact. You can even gain the ability to have little automated buddies.

Yes, you'll be in some deliciously unsettling situations, but instead of having to panic and run and hide, you can shoot those situations in the face.

I'd actually say that Bastion is a liiiittle bit overhyped. It's a good game, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a mustplay. The enemy variety doesn't keep the action interesting. I'd suggest playing it only if you enjoy the surreal visual style and the sexy-sexy narrator. Similar goes to Undertale: I loved it, but it's a pretty short game, and replaying it in a bad way will take you waaaay longer than it should. Not to mention that the game gets almost impossible to complete as an evil playthrough, unless you have the reactions of a demi-god.

Other than that, I would add:

  • Hotline Miami - a modern cult classic. Now this is a mustplay, haha. An extremely engaging acid thriller - a game like no other on the market. It will get you invested on a completely different level. The second one is pretty good, too, but not quiteas good as the first one.

  • Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - Skyrim's open world meets Shadow of the Colossus boss fights (your warrior party member can throw you up into the air, you grab the leg of a griffin, climb onto its back, hack at its wings, make it crash into the ground, where you warriors can easily take it down), meets an amazingly engaging combat system with a lot of very well rounded out classes, incredible (almost immortal) enemy and world design (I love it, when Japanese devs make European-inspired games), hundreds of hours worth of gameplay, unforgettable boss fights, and one of the best endings out there.

Tbh, SOMA is barely horror. I really don't like horror games, but I really enjoyed an LP of it

SOMA is a different kind of horror it dosnt really need to throw enemies trying to kill you to be scary. In fact there is a version with the enemies taken out that I found to be a lot scarier than with them in it.

If you're expecting traditional horror you will be disappointed.

Personally I'd recommend the witcher 3 over skyrim for RPG. More engaging combat. More engaging storylines. Far better side missions and I liked the characters ten fold over skyrims.

I see that you enjoy Warframe. Seeing this, I think you should try Borderlands 2 as it has a lot of grinding for guns (cooler than Warframe), 4 player multiplayer (server based like Warframe), and many awesome characters with many ways to build them.

What makes it awesome though is the amazing story that will never keep you bored! Also, NO micro transactions (except consmetics).

It may be a old game (came out in 2012) but look at the amount of people still playing it! http://steamcharts.com/app/49520

Compare that to the prequel which is newer (2014) but shorter/less fun(er) than BL2.

Look into mods for Skyrim, there are tons and tons of them.

If you like building games Cities: Skylines or Tropico (4 or 5) might be something for you.

In Banished you build a village and try to make them survive (mostly by not running out of food). The base game is great, but you should install the mod Colonial Charter which adds so much to the game.

In the Anno series you have various islands to settle and build up your economy, I'd suggest Anno 1404 or 2070, depending on which scenario you like better. You have a variety of options from which you can choose, so either you choose to include pirates and difficult and aggressive AI opponents or you can pick very peaceful AIs or just exclude them completely (I think).

Dishonored is a great game as well.

I'll throw Dungeon of the Endless in here. It's a rogue lite game in which you make your way through a dungeon room by room. Along the way you have to manage resources, level up your team members, build defenses, and defeat monsters. It's pretty addictive and hard to explain.

Hi, if you are interested in checking out indie/smaller titles, do check out my playlist. New recommendation added every Friday!

Thank you all for all the wonderful suggestions you have given me! I've decided to buy Borderlands 2, as there is something about the gameplay that makes me want to play it.

u/clark6050 I've no idea of how Bioshock plays, so I'll hold off on them till Christmas or so. I won't buy Undertale, as I've already spoiled myself of the story, same with Child of Light. I'll do Bastion sometime soon, as it's been something I've wanted to play for a long time. I don't like the art style of Cave Story, but I heard it's good, so I'll read up on it!

u/ahoneybadger3 I decided to buy Skyrim, as there are many mods, and The Witcher + All DLC is too expensive. However, I'll probably buy it on the next big sale.

u/craios125 Thank you for your suggestions! I'll be sure to play them in the next few months!

u/ackbarrio I heard that it's hard to play Rocket League without a controller, so I'll hold off on that as well.

Once again thank you all for your suggestions!

Thanks for the update on what your going to pick up (you'll have loads of fun with borderlands 2)

I'm sure you've already picked them up and spent your $60 but for next time please keep an open mind about Child Of Light.

I know that a spoiled story can be very deterring, but the story itself is not where the Child Of Light shines. COL shines like a galaxy in how the story is presented (let's just say if it was your average first person adventure it wouldn't be anything to sneeze at.) but the poetic undertone and how well the soundtrack blends with the gameplay is out of this world. Not to mention it has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard.

Just the next time your in the market for another game, all I'm asking is you give it a thought.

And I agree with u/RealmObliv if your thinking about Bioshock watch a lets play. I got into it because I played the first level at my friends place. If you think you can handle the first level you'll be fine (it's the scariest one in my opinion)

Hope you enjoy the games you picked!

Edit: if you are going to watch a lets play if Bioshock, I'd recommend watching until "Doctor Steinman" Bioshock is a story you don't want to watch this story you want to play it.

I've around $20 left, so I'll probably try it

I'm a little late but Mount and Blade: Warband is a blast. I bought it on sale and holy shit I've had so much fun with it. Pillars of Eternity is great too.
