This is not how things work. And when you stop buying this rando product? Just no.

Do these people think about what was 'detoxing' our bodies before detoxing came to be?
It's not like 12th century Scandinavians had the same food selection as 12th century North Africans.
Edit: Also, this is a pyramid scheme sort of thing?
I think so. I've never heard of it and she said to ask her about it so I assume so
That's a very safe assumption. That post hit every single marker of a shitty sales come-on by someone who doesn't understand how to market very effectively. "Ask me about it" means "Let me make a sales pitch to you."
I think the logic would be that our modern society (cars, factories, processed foods) mean our bodies are absorbing toxins that weren't present in earlier centuries.
But then you'd think our lifespans or intelligence would be dropping or something.
Yep, this stuff is a pyramid scheme.
No, no, it's multi-leveled marketing. Where each level down is bigger than one one above it. You know, like a pyramid
I think i didn't get the meaning of the second period in this context... could you expand, I'm a bit dense sonetimes :)
If our bodies get 'toxified', and need to be detoxed with certain foods. How are all these cultures detoxing when some foods are just unavailable to them.
I don't think that's a good argument. How did the 12th century folks deal with cancer? They just died. One could argue fat people just died as well in the past. I'm not saying this is true but it's not a sound argument.
I'm not saying we should make like them.
My point is if detoxing, in this context, was a necessary thing large populations of people would've died from not being able to get the right foods. We have the ability to import whatever food we want now, but that was not always the case.
She so so so so so wants the normal operation of her body to be ultra-complicated and weird and oogly boogly and complex and confusing. But she sounds like a sixteen-year-old girl who is trying her damndest to impress a college guy at a party.
Haha! This is one of the most accurate metaphors I've ever read.
She's 30
God, that sucks so bad. Emotionally stunted, but physically looking much older than they are. No wonder they gravitate to "granny toddler" clothes/hair.
The Plexus propaganda states:
Detoxification is a process that expels excess waste and accumulated toxins from our body
I do that quite well already thanks :) A cup of coffee in the morning with breakfast and I can "detoxify" in five minutes.
That's my favorite detox cleanse. Coffee shits are glorious
Try red pepper shits. Stuff is intense. I took a lot recently to get rid of some vacation bloat. Pretty effective.
I suppose people who "detox" think of livers only as something to eat with potatoes and fried onions...
It's sad because if she were talking about calorie control (not even restriction) and we could ignore the "toxins leave my body via my skin" bs, it would be a nearly sane posting!
I wish the toxins would leave their brains.
I'm more bothered by the fact that this person seems to think their facebook friends all want to read a wall of text about their yeast and their husband's digestive issues, tbh. It'd be one thing if they were asking for advice, but it sounds more like they're just putting this stuff out there to brighten people's days or something.
I have a Facebook friend who sells Plexus and she is SO ANNOYING. She claims it can cure everything from eczema to infertility (ugh seriously she made this huuuge post about a friend who was told by doctors she didn't have eggs or s/t but ended up conceiving while on Plexus and I found the whole thing so exploitative and icky) and at this point I only follow her so that I can laugh with my boyfriend about how wild her claims get.
I have a friend who was selling this as well and actually claimed her eyesight got better and she didn't need to wear her glasses anymore.
........
Inbox me babe
Plexus is a steaming pile of dog shit. Inbox me babe & I can give you the answers
I leave her as a friend because I like see her sell her soul to make a few dollars. there are no depths they do not go to to make a sale & the main part of the business is getting extra consultants in rather than any product they have & the price from what I have seen is through the roof.
She likes every single one of her posts and the same group of 3 women who I did a bit of web stalking on & yes you guessed it, also sold plexus. Nobody else comments or likes the post she makes.
It also really annoys me that they do not use "what" properly
The whole point of every MLM scheme is to set up more consultants/distributors under you. That's how these schemes even make money for the top dogs, the "distributors" are the end customers.
I just got invited to a Plexus Facebook event and all their customers talk about how they have "so much less inflammation!" Which I guess is vague enough to lengthen their list of benefits. But they're also really weird about not mentioning the name of the product. I had to do some Facebook stalking to figure out what they were selling.

Da fuq is a "balance hormone"?
You need help to balance hormones because reasons. I have no idea. If I need my hormones balanced, I'd rather go to an endocrinologist and have an adequate prescription
What?! That stuff is all chemicals... nature is best cuz if the earth and studf
As someone whose body cannot actually balance hormones... the cure is mostly taking prescription hormones, and weight loss. Imagine that.
I lost all my balance hormones. Then I fell down the stairs, broke both legs, and got a concussion. Balance hormones are super important!
/s
That's what they should like to me
It's what makes fat people "athletes" by allowing them to properly balance. Duh.
Idk, but we definitely need to rid our bodies of them!
I looked up candida with Google fu and (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a doctor) but according to Wikipedia: "Candida are almost universal in low numbers on healthy adult skin[12] and C. albicans is part of the normal flora of the mucous membranes of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and female genital tracts. The dryness of skin compared to other tissues prevents the growth of the fungus, but damaged skin or skin in intertriginous regions is more amenable to rapid growth.[16]"
So not only are you taking some snake oil pill that will make you shit your brains out (probably), you are taking a pill that kills natural fungus on your body which is what helps the mucous membranes of your lungs, stomach, and vagina work properly.
Yep, diet and exercise is too hard. I'd rather take a "fix-all" cure that does nothing but screw my body up even more than before. All in the name of HEALTH!
It's yeast. You can kill off an overgrowth with diet changes and it's wickedly hard to do. There are studies digging more into yeast /candida/personality issues. It may turn into interesting stuff. To be fair the crunchy crowd caught on to Vit D before mainstream docs and now it's a part of prenatal screening, etc. (Vit D for brain health, not just bones and immune system). Itchy skin can mean liver woes so it drives me crazy when people think it's a good thing. In pregnancy it can mean things are going south fast.
Has this what Facebook has become? 30 second infomercials from people you know?
I got off Facebook like 3 years ago so I don't know what's like anymore.
I think it's a particularly good channel for this type of thing as it's presumably your friends who presumably have your best interests in mind. I am far more likely to buy or try something that my friends recommend, and this is just a logical extension.
I don't actually see much peddling. I live 5000km from my family and it's how I keep in touch and then there's extraneous friends for entertainment since I'm a stay at home mom and need some distraction sometimes
For the most part Facebook is like whatever your friends are like. If you have shitty friends, Facebook is a shitty experience.
Has this what Facebook has become? 30 second infomercials from people you know?
Facebook is an amalgam of the people you choose to surround yourself with. If you see shit like this, it's because you've chosen to allow shitheads into your social network.
I still use Facebook to communicate with my family and friends (spread all over the world), but I never see shit like this because I culled my Facebook of all assholes long ago. This includes those in my immediate family.
OP reports their snake oil makes their 'brain feel less fuzzy', perhaps the baseline brain fuzziness explains much of what is going on here.
The thing about these MLM snake oil sales on Facebook is, like, you've been taking it for two weeks and haven't lost any weight yet. How about let's wait six months and see what happens to you before I try it?
I had a massage therapist who got so into Plexus she spent my entire 1 hour massage trying to sell it on me. All because I mentioned I heard probiotics can help with anxiety (in my defense I had NO idea she sold the stuff before that comment). She then promptly added me on FB and I finally had to hide all her posts (would have unfriended her but I live in a small town...ugh).
Guess who found a new massage therapist? She seems like a nice lady but I will never make the mistake of having an in depth conversation while trying to relax during a massage again.

This is why we need health ed, good god. Do people not realize that we have livers for a reason? :/
I love your flair, i was singing it mentally on the notes of jlo's on the floor :P
The 'i feel crap but this is okay because i'm detoxing' is so textbook. Basically any snake oil company at some point try to propale this excuse in their brochures.
A lot of this is nonsense. A "toxin cleanse" is one of those pseudoscientific treatments that drives me crazy. Give your liver credit for all the work it does! And if your liver really isn't up to the job, a Plexus snake oil pill is not the answer.
The only non-nonsense is the lifestyle change. I hope, for this person's sake, that that sticks.
Toxins leaving through her skin...OK then. Pseudoscientific bullshit is fantastic.
So strange dreams, changes in sleep, and itchiness are reasons to keep taking this stuff? If I took a supplement and started itching, my first thought would be "possible allergy - discontinue and go to doc," not "toxins leaving - yay!"
Also, "my energy is not from a pill" - aren't these things full of caffeine and similar stimulants?
Your throat is swelling because of all the toxins that are struggling to get out. Remain calm, if you stop breathing that will help your body flush out all the old, rancid oxygen that accumulates in our blood over the years!
Old, rancid oxygen sounds pseudoscience-y enough to be believable.
Here's a list of the ingredients I found:
I'm guessing it's a combination of the caffeine from the beans and all of the extra water they're drinking.

I could be wrong, but isn't Chromium toxic as well? That defeats the whole purpose of a "detox."
I'm curious, because being a vaper and within the vape community we try to avoid types of wire that some say not to use cuz it can produce chromium at a certain temperature. I've also has a chemist tell me chromium is not good for people to consume.
Again, if I'm wrong please correct me. That just really stood out for me and is the opposite of "detoxing."
Well there are different forms of chromium with varying levels of toxicity. Trivalent chromium(Cr^3+ ) is ok to ingest at certain amounts and is even considered an essential nutrient by the FDA. Too much of it though and it can cause liver and heart damage. I don't think plexus contains enough to be dangerous. At most, I think you might have an allergic reaction.
I'm guessing the reason they told you to stay away from chromium wire is because Cr^6+ is a carcinogen and may be released when certain metals are heated up.
Yup. It's supposed to be released from nickel and stainless steel wire. The nickel debate went away because a lot of people use Nichrome and is considered safe and is used in many household application like toasters or blowdryers and contains 80% Nickel.
Now people are concerned about 316L Stainless Steel which can release Chromium when damaged or high temps. But that went away too recently, it's the low-grade Stainless Steel people need to look out for in any application. The low-grade stainless steels contain Lead to make the steel softer when machining and crafty the metal. 317L is what you want in anything you buy if you can, it contains no lead, making it harder and more expensive, but the lack of Lead makes it safe to be used surgically and put into our bodies. Neat stuff. 😊
I learned about hexavalent chromium from Erin Brokovich!
Not this type of Chromium. We need chromium in small amounts. This is not hexavalent chromium, which is very toxic and a carcinogen.
Plexus is basically just a fibre supplement with added caffeine
