Building a 300 BLK Upper and pistol buffer question

I have two 6 position buffer tubes already and I was wondering if you guys had any updated thoughts on using solely the buffer tube without the stock as OK. Did some searching and came across over a year old replies, which included wrapping it with leather/paracord so it is not easily able to take a stock.

You guys still think it's "ok" to do so or be safe and get a pistol buffer? Thanks!

Edit: Thanks for your help, I ordered a Pistol Tube Buffer kit

What's the barrel length?

If it's 16" or greater - then use the rifle tube if you want. You can probably fashion a leather and/or paracord tube wrap to be comfortable-ish.

If the barrel is less than 16", I'd not use the rifle tube at all due to running afoul of the NFA regulations.

If the barrel length is 16", why wouldnt he put a stock on his rifle?

Because in some jurisdictions it's legal to have a loaded pistol in one's vehicle and not a loaded rifle; so they "get around it" by having a rifle-length pistol.

But by definition, its no longer a pistol.

I know that...and you know that...

But with the myriad state and municipality definitions of things, it may better serve someone to "keep it a pistol" than to have it be a "firearm" and not tempt fate.

I ordered a pistol tube just now, although I've always kind of liked the paracord look. Better safe than sorry!

You can still wrap a pistol tube if you want... Nothing stopping you.

Id get a pistol tube solely because the pad is much more comfortable against the cheek.

Do you have spare stocks on hand? Constructed possession is a rare charge and hard to prove, sometimes, but it's not absolute either. Either way the risk is low, but the penalty is really high. A pistol tube is like $30. Your call.

I understand, No, I don't have any laying around or in possession. I think I'll fork out the ~60 and not have anything bad happen.

Just get a pistol buffer and put one of those Sig Sauer pistol braces on it. The Midwest Industries pistol buffer tube is only like $60.
