Frozen in Lanzarote
You walked back out to the balcony with two large gin and tonics and a smile,
Closing the door behind you, and as the soft metal clack whispered out of the lock
We both realised we were now trapped out there, with nothing for company
Except each other and the soft midnight breeze howling at us.
Our room, as requested, was in a quiet part of the resort, so nobody was around
As we screamed for rescue from our tower prison; like two drunk, sunburnt Rapunzels.
Sounds of English tourists singing "I Gotta Feeling", wafted over to us -
Punctuating the isolation as we stood out there for what felt like hours.
We'd finished our drinks at least by the time we woke the neighbours
With our shouting and they called reception to get us back inside.
The girl who came to save us seemed to think everything was hilarious,
And laughed again the next morning when we saw her at breakfast.
From then we were regimented in our efforts to not allow a repeat performance;
Always on guard that nothing would leave us stranded again,
But sometimes when I remember it I think, if had to choose a point in time
To be stuck forever, that night would definitely be near the top of my list.
Been staring at this one for a few days and just need a fresh pair of eyes to look at it I think. All criticisms and suggestions more than welcome.
