The Devil and Me
Crossroads.
Here the sundown comes:
The wind the sand road sweeps
I waited by the grey dead tree
Many women, many bars, many towns -
They've come all this way with me.
A black song sang from my guitar strings
I played until
the cigarette was done
It hit the dry roadside grass
and a fire rose beside me.
There he stood, as the sun.
"For what summoned you me?"
he fret.
"Is it blood, is it gold.
is it women, is it a soul?"
"It is thee who have summoned me."
I said.
"And yes, dear frend,
I wish for all of those."
But I'd nothing left to offer.
