Gogeta and Critical Hits - now with some simple math and screenshots.

BOTH Analysis

So, in this post, I tried to formulate a theory about the whole Gogeta-Critical Hits-Critical Skill thing that surfaced after the release of the new Ability system, but the post lacked math and screenshots.
Before we begin, HERE is the little selection of screenshots I will use in this post, for you to have an overview of the whole thing.
Also, all of the examples and data are based off:

  • Double Gogeta lead;
  • Gogeta's SA at level 10;
  • Super Saiyan and Golden Warrior links active;
  • (Quest) 18-5 INT Whis as the enemy.

Gogeta's own Critical Chance
So this evening I managed to actually get a crit within 13 tries against (Quest) 18-5 INT Whis, which is in itself statistically not relevant to actually figure out Gogeta's Crit chance, but, considering I've been studying his Crit for quite a lot of time, together with my other data (according to which he consistently Crits within 10 tries give or take), it is safe for my own record to say that IMO his Crit chance floats around 10%.

Gogeta's regular SA
Gogeta's SA damage always stands at 193,314 and he is super effective against every type and alignment (total of +50% on the final damage), so his regular final damage is predicted to be 193,314(1.5) = ~289,971, with a calculated fluctuation of +/-5%.
Proof:

  • Starting damage being always the same: Case (A); Case (B); Case (C);
  • Exact prediction: Case (A);
  • +5% fluctuation: Case (B);
  • -5% fluctuation exists, I just forgot to upload it but I have it here in front of my eyes.

Gogeta's Critical SA
As I wrote before, I managed (with the stamina I had) to have a Crit this evening.
According to the game's official Critical definition, Criticals ignore DEF and deal Type advantage-like damage (so, +25% damage; and opponent's DEF to 0, so no flat damage reduction).
This definition is coherent with my findings about Gogeta's Critical SA damage:

  • Starting SA damage: Case (C);
  • Critical SA damage: Case (C).
    As you can see, Gogeta's Critical SA damage deals +30% damage in comparison to his regular SA damage: this is explained by both the usual +/-5% fluctuation of +25% (in this case a +5% fluctuation) AND no more DEF being there to subtract flat damage to Gogeta's SA (so the +5% fluctuation is actually less: I vaguely calculated -read: I mostly assumed it- 18-5 INT Whis' possible DEF to be in the 10,000 ~ 12,000 bracket, so the actual fluctuation, in this case, would be +1% ~ +2%; don't quote me on this though, I have not actually calculated it, this is mostly by intuition).
    This is pretty consistent with the official definition of Critical.

Conclusions
Now that we have images and some very simple math to back up the whole thing, we can get to the initial points:

  • Contrary to popular belief, Gogeta doesn't always crit because of his passive; he does in fact NOT crit ~90% of the times, with the remaining ~10% of the cases statistically dealing Critical damage ON TOP of his Critical-like (but actually different) passive;
  • Gogeta, overall, benefits the most out of every character from his crits, seeing how he already always deals super effective (type+alignment advantageus) damage on his own and tops that all with an additional type advantage on the whole thing (another final +25% after the whole calculation);
  • Critical skill, which also happens to be STR (yup, TEQ also) type's favorited skill (meaning a "unique" +5% Critical Chance for STR), might very well be, and most likely IS, Gogeta's best choice and top priority when choosing between Critical Chance and Additional Attack.
    According to THIS post, max Critical Chance level, for STR units, should mean a maximum of +40% chance on top of their own, which, according to my calculations, is equal to 10% for Gogeta, ultimately meaning that a max level Critical Chance Gogeta should have a whopping 50% Critical chance.
  • Additional Attack looks all shiny and amazes people with that probably tiny chance of it being a SA, but IMO, is not optimal and a lot less consistent as a skill for Gogeta and should be considered 2nd priority in comparison to Critical Chance: for Gogeta, still according to THIS post, that would mean a 30% chance to do an Additional Attack (20% less than Critical Chance) when the skill is maxed, which most of the times will end up being a normal attack (a DEF susceptible ~45,000 additional damage), as we don't know the SA chance on an Additional attack but is safe to assume it is indeed rare.
    In the long run, mathematically, Critical proves to be a lot more useful, reliable and consistent for Gogeta, and this is not considering the increased SA Damage Skill, which benefits the Critical Chance skill infinitely better than the Additional Attack skill.

PLEASE NOTE that my objective IS NOT to suggest you how to develop your character.
The reasoning has one noticeable flaw in that it assumes the SA chance of the Additional Attacks to be low, which is logically a safe thing to do, but not scientific in any manner, so keep that in mind.

EDIT
Regarding this last sentence, I have, anyway, for those interested, done some computing and compared these two:

  • A 100% maxed Gogeta with 1st piority Crit Chance & 2nd priority Add. Attack;
  • A 100% maxed Gogeta with 1st priority Add. Attack & 2nd piority Crit Chance.
    More importantly, I hypothesized Additional Attack's chance of being a SA to be a whopping 50%.
    I actually found out that, specifically in Gogeta's case, the more you upgrade him, the more 1st priority Crit. Chance gets the upper hand in terms of amounts of damage over time.
    So, even hypothesizing Add. Attack's chance of being a SA 50%, still, the further you progress through the sphere grid adding Stats and maxing Skills, the more the margin between the two (in favour of Crit. Chance) gets bigger.
    Consider I did this using the best of my knowledge over the new Potential Unlocked system and not actually owning a 100% maxed Gogeta myself.

Lastly, I'd love if u/arenzy would be so kind to find out database info on this new system's Skills, meaning their exact percentages.
I'd also love him to find out how exactly critical hits/chance work on Dokkan before considering the new Critical skill.
I get it is a huge work though and this is not meant to be a request, it is more of a personal wish.

Wow, this took a while to write!
I'm sure I fucked up somewhere with the links and the formatting, but I hope the final message will reach.

Thanks for reading, I'd love to hear some feedback!

EDIT
I am amazed at how much more productive and nerdy I am when my girlfriend's not around.
For some reason, I had to take this off my chest, haha
