Anyone get a rifle through the CMP? Looking for CMP-friendly FFL

I'd like to start spending all my money on military surplus firearms so I'm trying to go down the CMP road. However, the two FFL dealers I've talked to so far (one private individual, the other a gun range) are under the impression that they'll have to run the NICS check even the CMP supposedly does that before they ship the rifle to the FFL. They aren't familiar with the program (and they seem to think I'm vaguely retarded for questioning them).

Can anyone recommend an FFL that is familiar with the process? I'm in Hunterdon County but willing to drive...

Every place I have used to transfer CMP rifles ran a NICS check and and had me fill out a 4473. I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter if the CMP does it also, the FFL will run the NCIS too.

I got a rifle from the CMP. An FFL transferring a firearm to you, regardless of where it's from, will have ro run a NICS check on you and have you fill out a 4473. The CMP side NICS check is for the benefit of those in states where they can ship right to your door.

Ok, that's the type of answer I'm looking for. This state is so stupid.

Thanks.

Agreed, heck. Nj doesn't honor federal C&R licences either. So all my stuff has to go through my FFL to acquire.

MN is a good place to be. It's a blue state, but it honours Federal C&Rs and is a shall-issue state when it comes to CCW. And if you can deal with the cold (which really isn't all that bad...thanks, global warming) there's lots of hunting to be had.

In NJ if a FFL transfers you a rifle they will need to perform a NICS check with the State Police. Not sure if they need to complete a 4473 also or just a NJ form as well.

Do you know that from actually completing the process yourself here?

I'd like to offer my services if you haven't found an FFL. I charge $26.75 including tax and NICS for standard transfers.

Feel free to reach out,

The CMP ships directly to your house.

Not in NJ, or at least no longer.

http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/eligibility-requirements/

If your State or locality requires you to first obtain a certificate, license, permit, or Firearms Owner ID card in order to possess or receive a rifle, you must enclose a photocopy of your certificate, license, permit, or card with the application for purchase. Rifle shipments to NY and NJ must be made to a state licensed dealer. You must provide a copy of the dealer’s license with your order form. Rifle shipments to CA must be made to a State licensed dealer or may be made to individual homes, providing that a CA Certificate of Eligibility and a Curio and Relic License are provided. Rifle shipments to CT must be made to licensed or dealer or may be shipped directly to the customer if a C&R license is provided.

President trump needs to appoint someone to the position of secretary of the army, so the army can release them to the CMP.
