I wouldn't have forgotten I'm still subbed to it.

Thought I somehow switch to r/all mid scrolling.

Same, totally forgot

This sub is private? Huh, I feel like I'm part of a secret club

Not any more, but it was for a while.

Questions asked on r/historywhatif over the last two years would have been posted here and received more responses

To add to this, the community would have probably grown more, instead of being stunted. As not a lot of people moved over to r/historywhatif.

To be honest, I forgot this was a subreddit, I don't remember subbing to this one and then the other, I always thought they were the same one. Very strange!

Wait holy shit, this is still a sub?

Wait why is it private

IIRC a couple of years ago one of the mods got into an argument with the others over allowing Challenge-type posts. That mod ended up making the sub private, which it remained until about a day or so ago.

good to know the mods here are kiddies

Only the one as far as I can tell. The others were just as confused as the rest of us when this sub was randomly locked. I'm quite glad they were able to respond quickly and preserve at least part of this community over at r/HistoryWhatIf.

Probably to prevent any joe shmo from posting crazy stuff all the time.

r/HistoricalWhatIf continues its accention as a small sub generating oversized OC. The addition of challenges is rocky for the community, but it eventually becomes accepted given the large support by part of the user base.

As very successful comments get posted on r/bestof for karma, the sub gets attention by a lot of karma whores, swelling the subscribe list.

Things turn bad in the 2016 election as r/the_Donald supporters try to use r/HistoricalWhatIf as another way to get into r/all. This leads to setting the latest date for a What if at 1990. People complain and moderation becomes a lot harder, but the ban holds.

A lot of neo-nazis then make an attempt to claim the sub as well, saying very good things about Hitler. This ends up leading to a war in the sub, with a lot of comments starting to appear on r/SubredditDrama.

By now, the sub is a ghost of its former itself. Several content wars have caused a lot of submitters to leave, and the sub doesn't get as much attention that it used to. It has finally settled down and gone back to its former self. However, this causes the sub FUCKING REPEAT THE SAME FUCKING QUESTIONS ABOUT WORLD WAR II. SERIOUSLY, DIDN'T THEY LEARN ANYTHING ELSE IN HISTORY CLASS?!?

It's (apparently) an unwritten rule of history-related subs that at least 60% of the posts must involve WWII, or at the very least a token post comparing literally anything to WWII.

I wouldn't have noticed either way.

what happened

I thought this sub died. If it's back, that makes me a very happy person.

haha what? Then I would've realized I was still subscribed here. Private sub = dead sub

Wait this is private? Why?

I don't remember subscribing to this sub lol

When I went looking for a really great reply that someone had given to my question here once, I would have been able to find it and would not have been confused.

Glad to see the sub back :)

It would have grown a lot, and we could have finally answered how could Hitler of won World War 2?

I imagine with the fact Man In the High Castle is now a big thing, we would have argued a lot over the past year and a few days over Tagomi, Kido, and the rest of the crew.
