Elegy

Feedback Received!
To my adolescence, I shall say goodbye.
All things we live and love must sometime die.
I'll remember those sweet, sad, beautiful times,
So much more than what I could write in a few lines....

I'll always remember those road trips with Mama Ronson,
Traveling 301, the pine trees, the clam rolls and ice cream at the Howard Johnson.
The white, sandy beaches of Marco and Merritt and Captive beckon,
But, I won't go, to save myself the heartache, I reckon.

I'll remember my first love Ashlee, damn, how fine,
I can't believe I had the fortune of calling her mine.
How we danced and sang and traveled on a whim.
But the things she thinks are useless baffles me. She left me for him.

I'll remember the Cuban neighbors I had in Sorrento....
Their language, their joy, their love of life, now a distant memento.
I wish I could have caught their names, but I done nonesuch.
My oh my, time has a such a rough and ragged touch....

So, it is with bloodshot eyes and whiskey breath that I lay my adolescence to rest
The times I had in my youth were some of the very best.
But it's time to face the real world, to cry, to drink, to plaster a smile on my face.
And maybe, just maybe, I'll leave this wretched, wicked place...
