Can we please get an option/event to change capital?

Warhammer

Yes, there are mods out there that do that. Unfortunately they are start pos mods, which means they aren't compatible with many good mods, especially overhauls.

It really sucks to capture Drakenhof as Von Carstein, or even Altdorf and still use Schwartzwhatever as the capital when it's not even a major city. Also, Crooked Moon and Clan Angrund. Their whole campaign is centered around capturing one city and nothing happens after. I really don't want to sound like an entitled prick, but it honestly doesn't make any sense. It would increase immersion a lot if we could do this. :(

Agreed - the base code already supports the ability to change your capital under select conditions (mostly losing your capital to the enemy), so being able to have certain factions re-locate their capital to a newly conquered settlement should be possible.

In general, I feel that Von Carsteins should get Drakenhoff (possibly also all vampires claiming Altdorf), and Crooked Moon + Angrund should get 8 Peaks. I'm not sure about being able to manually move it, although that's purely from an inability to think of a smooth way to implement it than some kind of opposition to the idea proper.

That's what I want as well.

Yup, especially Angrund, Crooked Moon and the von Carstein faction need this. My OCD can't take it lol

Playing von carstein right now and almost cant take the fact that a 4 buildings city is my capital.... wtf!

This is definitely needed, for both lore and gameplay reasons - because as things are now, it's basically impossible to trade with most factions when playing Clan Angrund due to how trade routes work.

I've never understood the way they have it setup. "No route to home capital"

Okay but I literally have roads that lead from my capital to everywhere else. WTF

That's nothing to the inability of Reikland to trade with Middenland becuase the river Reik is in between! "Sire, if i might suggest: if we'll open trade relations with Boris, he'll warm up to the idea of you as emperor." "Have you been on the weirdroot again Ludwig? Look outside the window, there is only water!" "B-but my liege, we'll use river barges, or the SAME crossings our armies use!" "SHALL I SEND FOR VOLKMAR AND HIS NAUGHTY STICK?"

Volkmar and his naughty stick should totally be a line for an april fools day promotion.

This has been a requested feature in every Total War game since it was removed, and yet still we don't have it for whatever reason, so I as much as I too would love to see it return, I wouldn't hold your breath.

I would like the ability to move my capital as well. I'm fine with it being fixed to set capitals for lore purposes so I agree would be nice for eight peaks etc.

Probably low on the list for changes but would be nice addition in the future.

gumpythegreatThat is soooo going in the book•

I remember back in Attila as a migrating faction I made a poor choice for my capital, so I went into the save file and found the spot where it sets your capital and changed the value to the one I wanted. Sure, it's not elegant but it worked. I wonder is the same possible for warhammer?

Agreed. This would be a nice addition

This along with province tradings are diplomatic and economic options I wish CA brought back. They cut out province trading in Shogun 2 and moving capitals after Medieval 2 and never brought it back.

It's even more baffling to me that they cut out capital movements from Shogun 2 because of that game's mechanics. Your kids come of age and spawn in the capital which means if you're playing Date or Shimazu can mean in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. Also historically speaking, the warlords of that era moved capitals all the time. Tokugawa himself traded Mikawa for Edo.

While we're at it, setting different taxes for each province would be nice as well. Like how it was 10 years ago. I'd like to be able to set Reiklands taxes Very high and Stirland low, for example.

What does the Capital affect besides the graphics?

Trade. To sign a trade agreement with another faction, you need to have a clear line of owned territory between your capital and their territory, or a port linked to your capital that connects to any port they own (all ports on the map connect to all other ports). This is why for example it is so critical for the Dwarfs to confederate or capture Barak Varr early on, because it connects Karaz a Karak to every other faction with a port.

If you're playing Clan Angrund your starting province cannot link to a port, which means your capital never links to a port. This cuts down severely on the amount of trade you can engage in, regardless of your relations with factions.

In that case I think changing the trade mechanics to remove the Capital city dependance is more important. A Capital should do more, like carry penalties if lost or sacked.

Or "Trade Access", where a faction lets you trade through their lands as if it were your own.

Alternatively, this mechanic could be fixed if we had overland trade exactly as there was in every previous Total War title

Roast_Lamb"Waga katana wa tono no mono"•

That would be brilliant, but I can see folks just changing their capital to a more convenient location for trade - since you can only trade with your capital's immediate neighbours. It hurts Dwarf factions the most, since they can only colonise mountainous regions. I only realised this when I played as Clan Angrund and could only trade with 3 other factions. Fair to say I was confused for the first 100 turns!

dtothep2•

The real problem with it is obviously trade possibilities, and for that they can either let us change capital or, even better, rework the way trade works.

Stuff like Clan Angrund being unable to trade at sea is a problem which will become an even bigger disadvantage with the release of Lustria which will probably ape real life history and introduce some new, exclusive resources that will make trading there very lucrative.
