Most of the preteen kids at our local rinks toss those things on 20 minutes before their game and tear around the halls weaving all the other parents. It's annoying as hell.

They are called RollerGards and already banned in quite a few rinks here in Ontario.

Why do I read this in pirates voice? RrrollerGaarrrds

Also is there a movie with two guys saying "We're guaarrrds"?

7
burnSMACKERMississauga Steelheads - OHL•

You're right, I spelt it phonetically. I never noticed the missing u

2
PhoecesBrownDET - NHL•

Lol, nah. You actually spelled it Roll-ger-gaurds, but that's cool. Typos happen.

What's more, you spelled it that way twice in this thread, which led me to believe either I was having a stroke or this was just an abomination of a product name

5
sonik-bobkatHalifax Mooseheads - QMJHL•

They're banned at the rink I work at, and city wide here in Halifax.

5

Well that ruined my dreams pretty goddamn quick.

8

Yep can confirm my kid has em and they're banned at our rink.

He's so Canadian that he's actually forgotten how to conventionally walk. He goes home in a pair of roller blades every day.

I heard he's re-tiling his bathroom and kitchen tile from ceramic to ice.

Now that you mention it...he seems a bit wobbly.

Met ROR when my town won Hockeyville USA unbelievably nice guy and took time to talk to everyone and ask how they were and signed a shit ton of autographs. Also spent time with every single little kid around the rink.

I met him at Tim Hortons once, he didn't stay to take a picture.

Spent about a year at NMU. My best friend's family is originally from the area and they're still up there. I go back every couple years. Really wish I had stayed instead of moving back home (about 9 hours away in central IL)

They're considered roller blades and are already banned by default in most places

1
fortuitiesMIN - NHL•

My daughter has a pair of those, but some of rinks here in MN are starting to not allow them anymore. Too many kids falling and hurting themselves or being annoying to others. So yeah, totally wasted 40 bucks on our end :/

13
EPluribusUnumIdiotaPIT - NHL•

You can buy them, but even though they haven't made their way to my area in DC there's already talk of banning them preemptively. They're also not cheap, maybe there are knock-offs. I can't imagine them being very stable unless you're <70 lbs or so, I'm 275 so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be rollin very far.

6
marksk88TOR - NHL•

You'd probably roll about 6-6.5 feet, from a standing position to the ground. 😂

If you're actually under 6 feet, sorry.

3

They have them at Ashburn IceHouse in the shop. Saw them today.

1
burnSMACKERMississauga Steelheads - OHL•

They are called RollerGards. They are sold in Black and Red (maybe more) for $60CAD.

They are already banned in quite a few arenas in Ontario.

They were also a successful project on Dragon's Den in Season 8 where 4 Dragons made a deal with the inventor.

6
The_PunniestBUF - NHL•

Why do you keep spelling it like that?

3
burnSMACKERMississauga Steelheads - OHL•

Because that's how it's spelt.

Technically I didn't even write it 100% correctly since I added the 'u'."

3†
PhoecesBrownDET - NHL•

Dude, poor form. He was referring to how you spelled it before, rollgergaurds

8
XTraumaXNSH - NHL•

So I keep seeing people comment that they are banned. Whats the reasoning behind the ban?

Are they worried the guards would come off should someone fall and subsequently lead to injuries via the blade on the skate?

2
burnSMACKERMississauga Steelheads - OHL•

Same reason you're not allowed to glide around indoors on rollerblades.

5
XTraumaXNSH - NHL•

Well then, I feel dumb now. Completely over looking the most obvious reason to ban them.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

I remember once when I was a kid, taking the ice before a game, I forgot to take off my skate guards and stepped on the ice. I immediately fell. I remember legitimately thinking "oh my god... I forgot how to skate!" before realizing my guards were on. End of story.

yep any story of a sabres player not on the ice is positive, we dont need another titanic story when they hit the ice
