Fair enough. It works great either way, good job.

Thanks for the feedback! I just like it better like that. I have a reason, but it's a little involved so I'll just say it was intentional.

Woah this is great. Of course, the born/bored is incredible. The simplicity and conciseness of the lines and imagery too work really well to convey the monotonousness. I'm curious, was there any reason you chose to say "i died for this" rather than "i died for you"? I feel like the latter might work a tiny better with the theme (i died for **you**/**you're** born again," and contrasting you/i in the first and last sets of four lines), but then again it's a very minor detail. Fantastic job!

The only line that concerns me is "one rainy day" which, I mean is servicabe, but is a bit lacking in terms of weight (which in a poem this size matters a lot). Why rainy day? Why one day? It feels like you could try to wrench some more out of the line.

Otherwise the piece has an interesting harrumph that pisses me off but i can respect.

Short but makes me think. I wonder if the lower case i's are intentional and I feel like simon is saying he died for whatever you're doing now (like being bored), but I'm not certain. Also could be read as a break-up piece where Simon feels he's taking the fall and you're excited to be out on your own (until you get bored again).

Wow, when you point it out that way I feel stupid for not getting it! I wasn't aware that Jesus' brother's name was Simon. I was aware of the Simon says aspect but I was thinking "he's gotta be playing with someone else". That makes a lot of sense. I'm not a very religious person, so to your intended audience, this would have gone over no problem. If you want to make it accessible to the broader audience (read: me and people like me) maybe try to include one last piece of religious imagery that is more accessible. If you don't think that's important, and mind you that it doesn't need to be to still be a great poem, don't change anything because in that context this is great.

Fair enough. Simon was the brother of Jesus, so it gets the religious imagery going early. Not Jesus outright, but something very similar. But also "Simon says" is a game that demands imitation, so essentially any cult of personality who offers you a new life in exchange for your obedience.

In the end, on a rainy day (any day where his mood drastically changes), he loses interest in his faith, as many do when they hop from one worldview to another. Cheers!

I think some more context would be helpful here. I'm left feeling confused. Who is Simon? What is his relation to the speaker? The thematic and tonal elements of isolation and monotony shine through, but I want to know why it matters to these characters and why it should matter to me, the reader.
EDIT: I do really enjoy the informality and lack of capitalization. It is a great way of formally and stylistically building your tone and theme. No negative comments that way. Also the rhyme helps to make it almost 'drone'. Awesome stuff.

I saw in a different comment that the narrator is meant to be following a cult through the obedience of Simon Says, and that once he is brought into the faith he ends up with disinterest. What is the source of "disinterest?" Do you mean the same thing as losing faith? If you do, then perhaps elaborating on the last line might help to make that more specific and understandable.

I also did not see the religious allusions until I read your comment somewhere else. But I value the conciseness of the poem a lot, because I think it serves both your and my interpretation very well.

simon says
i died for this
simon says
you're born again
i'm born again
i'm born again
one rainy day
i'm bored again
