DarkomicronMaster Alarak•

Might just be me but I hate watching streams like this. I prefer some positive vibes or high level play. I don't tune in to see a streamer berate someone or complain. Every time I see something mewnfarez related it's negative like this clip.

75
SpiderbubbleSylvanas•

This is why I always found the lower Elo streams in LoL to be far more fun to watch. You don't always watch for the "PROPLAYS", you watch for entertainment.

9
Mate_00•

I prefer skilled entertainers though. I like goofy stuff but it's more entertaining for me if it's based in the person really being (or acting) silly than just playing badly because they don't know any better.

I'd rather watch a player capable of high level plays loosen up and play a silly build/hero (and be decent with it) than watch a newbie play the same thing because he thinks it's actually good.

I generally prefer watching streamers that are better players than me. I don't have to cringe about obvious mistakes and I can even improve by watching it. It's like...

Would you rather watch a friendly football match between a bunch of guys or watch FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid?

2
crowbladeOPAbathur•

Well probably because a streamer explaining stuff isnt worth clipping for most people.

The salt stuff is funny.

He was GM#4 last season, he is GM this season again. I think he's quite good ;) He shows the flaws of other players and explains why it's wrong which is really educating.

But sometimes the PJSalt embodies him Kappa

-7†
DarkomicronMaster Alarak•

Maybe, but it's not just clips. I tuned into his stream a few times and every single time he was complaining about something or thrashing his teammates. I immediately lose interest and tune out again when that happens.

29
Sanguinary_Guardcyka blyat•

Part of his shtick is that he's always salty and that's the personality that people tune into his stream to watch. Sometimes its just entertaining to see someone get as frustrated at the game as I do. You're laughing at him just as much as you're laughing with him.

For some reason this makes a lot of folk on reddit extremely upset.

5
DuerfianTrollpicker until Zul'Jin•

If it's there all the time it's not really a shtick. It's a personal trait.

I'm with you man, another gm player I watch is oddishplaysgames, she's pretty fantastic and positive. I've seen her play with mewn a few times and he was kind of shitty to his team. I've refused to go into his stream ever since.

Watching how Grubby threw the game for the sake of BM? No thanks.

-4†
TyragonMaster Rexxar•

That's one bad example of Grubby versus hundreds to another. Grubby has more ofcourse, but it can't be compared to his general positive attitude 90% of the time.

He barely does a BM like that, the reason he do at times is because he's up against someone he knows who likely BMs him back for fun.

5
RobinotXMaster Ragnaros•

Not as much as Mewn is just a pure void as negativity. That said I am not saying Grubby is a saint cause that guy can troll as well.

But if we are going to look at the amount of times that Mewn is a negative influence or Grubby is negative influence I think Mewn wins that cup :)

He isn't a saint but he is definitely less negative than Mewn.

My favorite streamer is Kendric. As far as I know I never saw that guy really salty before. Just a fun guy to watch.

Grubby is fun to watch and also because as a fellow Dutch I just like to watch him. Watching Mewn is just awkward, cringeworthy and annoying.

That said I don't watch Mewn anymore for that reason. But most of the Twitch community enjoys it. That is fine, not my cup of tea tho.

6

boring fair enough i agree on that. But i've rarely if ever seen him salty.

5
tukifukiThe Swarm Indoors•

I guess this is a matter of preference, but I actually find Mewn boring because his constant whining is not entertaining to me.

I don't find Grubby a saint either, but he contributed a lot more to this game and its community while I don't think Mewn helps this game grow at all.

I'm gonna assume this clip doesn't count as one of the "entertaining" moments where he gets salty??? he's not being sassy, I'm not seeing any funny facial expressions, he didn't say anything worthwhile, it's not even funny in a cringe way? it's just....nothing

7
TheKeninblackHeroes Of The Silenced•

It's entertaining to his fanbase. They watch him for the salt, then upload it to reddit in hopes that there are more like-minded individuals to get the instant upvote. Anyone who doesn't like Mewn is simply a "hater".

4
Grash974Master Guldan•

This must get more attention.

2
TyragonMaster Rexxar•

Or simply "doesn't like hearing the truth" because being told the hard truth of everything you do wrong like everyday life and gaming is military school is the "real life".

There's also lots of people who just find his salt entertaining or can gauge some wisdom from the negativity, as he does make some good points.

But there's always better ways to point out mistakes and teach your viewers. Grubby does that by holding a form of lecture and speaks to his viewers without targeting the player, even if we know who did the mistake, he's not out to berate the player but rather inform.

Mewn does it more to vent out his frustration and get support I find.

1
TheKeninblackHeroes Of The Silenced•

Except there's a difference between critiquing and berating. This video is a prime example of name shaming and witch hunting. I understand if someone says "stop stepping on the double flamestrike" but to just outright say "this guy is trash, doesn't belong in GM" doesn't really help in any way.

I'm not saying everything has to be sunshine and butterflies. Mewn is his own person and I understand his frustration with the game, but to say that he speaks "the truth" just because he belittles his teammates is just absurd.

2
TyragonMaster Rexxar•

Not sure if your post was agreeing with mine or you thought I was on the opposite side, but I fully agree with what you wrote here.

I always feel sad when people think that this is how "real" people speaks the "truth" to others. You can give people facts about how someone sucks without shaming, berating or witch hunting said person.

2
crowbladeOPAbathur•

This player didnt play like GM all game, this last thing just synced very funnily perfect with the music and the death on the double flamestrike was just the topping on the ice cream.

I don't even care about this person and I'm not nameshaming, everybody makes mistakes. Even GM. And yes, even mewn. You can still point them out. Everyone reacts like "boohoo, dont point out my mistakes" Well you never improve that way.

4
Fullrare•

Most players, (keep in mind you may be the exeception), believe that they are either on par or above the skill of their teammates. With this in mind if something goes wrong most players frame it from a perspective that minimizes their personal blame. So if a friendly tracer has pyro on her and you're a malf trying to support, you'd assume she'd recall, she doesn't, you never healed her, she's dead. You blame her for this death (shit tracer who didn't use recall off CD), she however might be blaming you because she knew that 1 heal combined with her mobility would have brought her up to a safe health to live through it and blames you calling you a shit hero. Its all perspective and rarely, unless its a complete goof, do people admit they made a mistake especially if the end result is a team-wipe or a boss steal or a loss. human fucking nature.

Now lets translate this into streaming. In today's world calling out a player will get you silenced because no one wan't to be told they're making a mistake, they'll actually double down and not only ignore the call-out but they'll dismiss you entirely using the guise of "he's just flaming". So communicating misplays is pointless. So what does a player who very possibly is the best player on the team, who witnesses misplays from others who supposedly are better according to the in-game ranking system do? Well he calls them out on stream. This satisfies his need to draw attention to their supposed shit behavior and satisfies the needs of many who share his incessant desire to open the eyes of people so to speak. Kind of like how some people drive like fucking assholes that just a fact right. But to each person individually they all drive fine its everyone ELSE that's the asshole. But in reality, no some of them really are assholes, and I think that mewn tends to call them out correctly and also in a non-threatening wholesome way that I peresonally derive great pleasure from. So that's why i donate. Because i can't talk shit in game (because im a shit player myself and also because its flaming which is wrong) so he dooes it verbally for me!

2
RobinotXMaster Ragnaros•

Thanks for your answer :).

Whereas I agree on some parts there are parts I do not agree but that is fine =] Thank you again!

1

NO problem senor! just remember how i prefaced it (keep in mind you may be the exeception) and also remember how he's a sucessful streamer with lots of viewers and donations, so obviously some ppl agree! :) cheers love

1
Ignace92Master Cassia•

It's entertaining for some people, it's that fucking simple. I cannot fathom why so many people seem compelled to point out how they don't like mewnfare. So what? Just don't fucking watch it. There are plenty of 'helpful' voices in the community and that's amazing, but some streamers set out to entertain, not inform.

-1†
RobinotXMaster Ragnaros•

I am more than free to tell that I don't like him whereas you are more than free to tell me you don't like I am saying this :). I already mentioned that I am not his target group. So I do not watch him, but I can voice my opinion what I feel about his way of streaming.

If negativity is entertaining for you. Good for you :D.

2
Interrupt-VectorSilenced•

Because negative feedback is often more constructive than positive feedback. You learn a lot more from him than from other streamers. A player doesn't improve when told he did a good job, he improves when being told what he did wrong.

-1
RobinotXMaster Ragnaros•

There is a difference in negative feedback and constructive feedback.

If I give feedback whereas I only point out the negative things somebody does, be it in game or outside in my study or work field, that doesn't work. You can better be constructive without showing negative emotion and try to help somebody trough positivity. It is definitely possible to be positive and constructive :)

2
Interrupt-VectorSilenced•

I agree that it's possible but in my eyes it's just sugarcoating. If you can look past the emotion and just read the message that's being told to you maybe you'll also be able to understand the frustration that comes with the message. If someone made a mistake they should be told that they made a mistake, both in Games and in a work environment.

I like Mewn, but this is why I don't watch him.

I prefer to watch the likes of Trikslyr and Pallytime. They'll see someone who is a lot worse than themselves or the level of play and laugh about it, or turn it in to a joke. Mewn just gets mardy, not fun to watch at all.

I can hardly stand watching his HoTS stream due to all the salt, but his Playerunknown stream is actually good, and I started to follow him because of it. So I know he can be a great streamer, he just needs to complain less about whatever people are doing and try to make something positive.

2
TaliantHOTS•

I think poor Mewn is just trapped.

He seems to truly HATE hots now but he is forced to play it day in and day out as his primary income source.

Feels like some sort of awesome fantasy "Play video games for a living, make money!" twisted in some Faustian manner into torture.

1
TyragonMaster Rexxar•

It's also probably frustrating trying to stay at the top competitively when that's your goal, instead of focusing on the game itself for fun. It makes you focus on all the mistakes other players makes cause at the end of the day, those mistakes is a hindrance to your goal. It's understandable to end up negative that way.

I've seen several pro streamers eventually opt out of the pro scene once they've gotten enough support through streaming to make a form of living, as it's a lot more entertaining and less stressful, knowing that your goal is to keep your stream alive and good, instead of something that feels more out of your control.
