sickness

Feedback Received!

as i spiral downward in a downward spiral,

the emotions and feelings escalate to the depths,

the inner turmoil of my heart rips me apart

from the inside.

there's nothing i can do about the sickness i feel

but to let it run its course,

so i do.

i feel everything acutely,

every little memory cutting me like a knife,

slicing my soul, slitting the skin of my heart

This is amazing. I'm worried though that it may be unintentionally amazing. This piece violates most every item on the basic writing checklist: it tells the emotional content straight up, does not ground that in any sort of narrative or imagery and what content it does have is terribly cliche.

But in this case with gems like

as i spiral downward in a downward spiral

That unartistry feels deliberate. If this is the case I commend the poet. If this is not, I would advise against hoping lightning strikes twice and looking towards study.

I really like the vagueness of the poem, and how it doesn't outright state what the the narrators sickness is. However, I, personally, don't feel a good ending to this poem: what will happen to the narrator? What kind of sickness is it? Maybe they'll heal, or maybe they'll be destroyed - I feel like the poem could allude to either of those a bit more.

Also, you don't capitalize your i's yet you do use punctuation, leading to a slightly jarring read.

However, all in all: I do really like this poem and the direction it's headed in! Keep up the good work!

Really enjoyed this! I'm no critic by any means, but to refer to the other comment: I really like how it feels like a negative yet mysterious ending and how the sickness is never said. I also enjoy not capitalizing the i's, makes it feel like the narrator feels like nothing as opposed to a proper person, etc. Super relatable, great work!
